Christophe Cocard
Kilmarnock had a dreadful time of things last year, finishing second bottom - only four points ahead of Aberdeen, and events at Rugby Park during the close-season suggest that there could be more disappointment in store during the 2000-01 campaign.

Manager Bobby Williamson tried to sign Gazza from Middlesbrough but, unfortunately or fortunately for Killie, depending on how you look at it, Everton got there first. You have to question the sense of Williamson who would have had to sell Christophe Cocard in order to have financed the Gazza deal. Cocard was one of the few successes at Rugby Park last season.

Paul Wright

Instead, Williamson signed bad-boy Andy McLaren from Reading - six months after being sacked for drug use - hoping he can show a return to form. If McLaren can get his act together, it may prove to be a shrewd piece of business. If not, all is forgiven Gazza. Other newcomers to the Killy ranks include Craig Dargo from Raith Rovers on a free transfer and Neil MacFarlane from Queen's Park on a free transfer.

Jerome Vareille

Killie are always a difficult team to beat at Rugby Park, but they don't really have the class to trouble the big guns. Williamson should do enough with the capable players at his disposal to avoid the same relegation problems as last season, although they are likely to finish in the bottom half of the league. Fairly solid defensively but cursed with a major problem scoring goals. As of yet, they really haven't taken any steps to sort that problem out.
