Carl
Asaba
|
With Peter Taylor
having left to take up the manager's job at Leicester, the Gills are most
people's favourites for the drop. Their chances of survival will depend a
lot on the goals of Carl Asaba, but they could come unstuck against some of
the better sides in the division and it looks set to be a struggle for survival.
Player-manager
Andy Hessenthaler, though, has bonded the squad together with his usual
brand of self-belief and die-hard passion, and his team will be built to
battle for each other - the Gills have certainly proved before that they've
got character and resilience, but still remain the weakest of the three
promoted teams.

Marlon King
|
The arrival
of Marlon King (Barnet, £250,000), Paul Shaw (Millwall, £450,000), Chris
Hope (Scunthorpe, £250,000) could make all the difference, and good support
at the 10,600 capacity Priestfield is crucial. Tough season ahead, but not
without hope.
