Manager Paul Sturrock
has been busy during the close-season signing Hasney Aljofree from Bolton,
after the player was released on a free transfer by Wanderers, Danny Griffin
from St Johnstone for £600,000, Jamie Buchan from Aberdeen on a free transfer,
Neil Heaney from Darlington for £175,000 and Joachim Fernandez on a free transfer
after a trial.
Out have gone
Siggi Jonsson, Magnus Skoldmark, Iain Jenkins, Bernard Pascual, Darren Patterson,
Leigh Jenkinson, Jan Telesnikov and Maurice Malpas, who has retired.

Dundee United
had a very mixed time of things last season. At times things looked very
promising for them. But on the other occasions they were mediocre. Sturrock,
to his credit, has placed the emphasis on youth at Tannadice, so there is
every chance that this policy may bear fruit this season. For the good of
the game, it would be great to see it succeed. Last season, though, they
finished in eighth place 51 points behind Rangers and six points clear of
Aberdeen, and it will take a huge effort to improve on that.
