Craig Bellamy
As a player Gordon Strachan operated at 110 miles and hour and his management style is no different. Coventry, though, have made slow progress and could face another relegation battle. Bookmakers Surrey have clipped Coventry from 100-30 to 11-4 to be relegated after 33 seasons in the top-flight. Bad sign!

David Thompson
The main reason for this surge of pessimism is the loss of Robbie Keane to Inter Milan, coupled with the recent departures of Gary McAllister and Noel Whelan. Strachan may have eased his striker crisis by signing Welsh international Craig Bellamy from Norwich City, but the Sky Blues have lost too many class players, from only a small-to-medium-sized squad and they don't have a big squad anyway. Promising teenagers Gary McSheffrey and Jay Bothroyd may have a big part to play before the season's out, although Bellamy is the golden egg in Strachan's basket.

Moroccans Youssef Chippo and Mustapha Hadji inspired the Sky Blues to some dazzling performances at Highfield Road last season, but Coventry need to record some victories on their travels to be alright this season. Their home form was top-six potential, but only seven points and no wins away from home should have seen them relegated by Christmas!

Jay Bothroyd

On a positive note, Strachan has such enthusiasm for the game and tries to get that sort of consistent big game commitment from his players that there is hope. Whether they have a big enough squad to cope with a relegation battle you would doubt at the moment. How Strachan replaces his other stars is vital and provided they use the money to improve the squad they will have a better chance, but not much of one.
