Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
The pressure is on Gianluca Vialli to push Chelsea back up the table after they failed to qualify for the Champions League. Instead they had to settle for the UEFA Cup after winning the FA Cup. The Blues continue to attract support in this season's Premiership betting, with the Tote being the latest firm to cut the Charity Shield winners. The Blues are now 4-1 third favourites with the Tote. They had been 6-1 before defeating reigning league champions Manchester United 2-0 at Wembley. A positive sign indeed.

Mario Stanic
Chelsea are ambitious. They have money. They have a large squad, which Vialli has not only managed to keep together - against expectation - but enhanced. They have drool-icious pulling powers of persuasion with the world's best player - They have a good goalkeeper and have just signed a proven goalscorer. They are not in the Champions League, unlike their immediate rivals, and are unlikely to let the UEFA Cup distract them from winning a domestic prize - which would fulfill Vialli and make Ken Bates a happy man.

They have demonstrated they can beat United, which is a huge psychological boost, and the only reason people do not fancy them is their reputation as a bunch of highly paid foreigners who lack the necessary grit to dig-in when the going gets tough, in particular during January and February.

Christian Panucci

These criticisms were perfectly valid last season, when Chelsea were guilty of pinning all their hopes on the Champions League, but to assume they will carry on in the same way, may be to underestimate Vialli's determination and his players' pride. A lot of reputations are at stake this season, and for that reason if no other, Chelsea have a chance.
