The Clarets are
guaranteeed fanatical support at Turf Moor following their promotion from
the Second Division last season. Expect a few 20,000 plus crowds at the famous
old stadium as Burnley battle with Lancashire rivals Bolton, Blackburn and
Preston - but they will need all the help they can get.
The pundits
have already got Burnley down to have a tough season ahead, although with
the arrival of a few new faces coupled with manager Stan Ternent's drive
and determination, the Turf Moor club should have enough about them to avoid
a swift return to Division Two.
Despite finishing
as runners-up to Preston in Division Two last season, Burnley's financial
situation is not good. Ternent has had to hunt around in the bargain basement,
eventually snapping up Lee Briscoe (Sheffield Wednesday), John Boardman
(Liverpool), Phil Gray (Luton), and Kevin Ball (Fulham) on free transfers.

Beating Manchester
City 2-1 during pre-season was a massive confidence boost for the Clarets,
now all they need is for Ternent's old pal Vinnie Jones to return from Hollywood
to add a bit of steel to the Turf Moor outfit. Stranger things have happened!
