The loss of star
man Craig Hignett to promotion-rivals Blackburn is a massive blow to the Tykes,
but Dave Bassett is a seasoned campaigner and should still be able to get
enough out of his squad to make the play-offs again. Automatic promotion,
however, is another matter.
The arrival
of Mitch Ward from Everton for £200,000 and Alex Neil, a bargain £25,000
from Airdrie is a boost, and the free signing of the potentially brilliant
Lee Jones from Tranmere could prove to be one of the deals of the season.

Lee Jones

The influential
trio of Darren Barnard, Neil Shipperley and Chris Morgan will be vital but
the real key to success for Barnsley is Bassett himself. A great man-manager
and motivator, if he can't get the best out the Tykes, no-one can.
