Aberdeen got let
off the hook last season after finishing bottom of the table. With Falkirk
claiming a place in the top three of the First Division, Aberdeen's Premier
status was guaranteed. Did they deserve it? Absolutely not! Appalling for
most of the 1999-2000 campaign - and this season may not be much better.
You feel that
Dons lack the necessary strength in depth to make any great progress. During
the close season they have failed to add to their squad and future signings
are unlikely unless someone at Pittodrie wins the lottery.

The problems
of last season were defensively as they let in the most goals in the Scottish
Premier League, and lack of confidence going forward. Without any additions
to their squad it's going to be hard for coach Ebbe Skovdahl to sort those
areas out. During pre-season Aberdeen looked a team short on confidence.

Their 1-0 loss
to Inverness Caledonian Thistle and a 4-3 defeat to Hartlepool would suggest
that those defensive
problems haven't as yet been resolved. Aberdeen finished a massive 57 points
behind Rangers last season, and four points behind second-bottom side Kilmarnock.
On the plus
side, Skovdahl had an excellent track record at Brondby, and despite the
doom and gloom of finishing bottom of the pile, they did get to the finals
of both the Scottish League Cup, and the Scottish Cup last term.
