X-Games:
Wakeboarding
Of the other sports,
Wakeboarding's leading contender is Orlando's Darin Shapiro, the most decorated
wakeboarder in the sport's history. His main opposition is cross-city rival
Shaun Murray, and another competitor from Florida, Shane Bonifay.
Murray, who placed fourth last year, only pursued his armchair interest
in Wakeboarding after seeing his hometown hero on the television, and has
quickly become one of his closest rivals.
Women's wakeboarding was expected to be a closely-fought battle between
1997 champ Tara Hamilton, and defending gold medallist Maeghan Major, both
teenagers hailing from Florida.
