2000 X-Games: BMX

Two wheeled legend Dave Mirra - who has already won ten X-Games medals - was the red-hot favourite to make it a perfect dozen on both the vert ramp and park course. Mirra last didn't win a BMX X-Games gold three years ago, and has a total haul of 8 gold and two silver from the five Games so far.

Britain's Jamie Bestwick carried our best hopes of a medal, on the vert ramp, especially if he could land his trademark turndown flair manoeuvre.

Ryan Nyqvist, a silver or bronze medallist in the last three Games, was hoping to finally reach the top step of the podium in on the dirt course, whereas Trevor Meyer was the sure-fire favourite on the Flatland course. The 28-year-old, nicknamed "The Machine" had an impeccable pedigree - he's won the BS Flatland Championship each year since 1994, and all three X-Games flatland golds.

X-Games: X-tra:

Over 350 of the world's top extreme sports athletes competed in the 2000 X-Games - organised by American television station ESPN - which took place from 17th-22nd August in San Francisco.

Nearly $1m in prize money was up for grabs in a variety of extreme disciplines - Aggressive In-Line Skating, Bicycle Stunt, Freestyle Moto X, Skateboarding, Skysurfing, Sportclimbing, Street Luge and Wakeboarding - all infront of the picturesque San Francisco Bay.
