Olympic
Basketball, Sydney
Once
again this event is going to be all about Team USA and the latest incarnation
of the 'Dream Team'. Even the official Olympic website
admits that: "everyone knows the gold will be going home with Kevin Garnett
, Tim Duncan,
Gary Payton and the rest of the US Team". And looking at their All-Star
NBA line-up, who could argue with that?
As far as the
silver medal is concerned Yugoslavia are probably the most fancied - but also
look out for an underrated Lithuania team who picked up the bronze back in
1996.
The women's event
should be a closer run affair, but Team USA - with several professionals from
the WNBA on show - are still the side to bet on. Other contenders include
Australia, Brazil, Russia and Poland - with Brazil's Paula de Silva and Russia's
Maria Stepanova two names likely to be hitting the basketball headlines in
Sydney. |
