Major League Baseball Extra (Repeat): Toronto Blue Jays v New York Yankees

New York Yankees v Toronto Blue Jays

With the New York currently eight games clear of both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees will already be playing with one eye on the play-offs. They have just completed a three game sweep over the Red Sox at Fenway Park and despite being shut out 4-0 in a make-up game on Monday, New York are now playing some of their best baseball of the season.

Errant All-Star hitter Darryl Strawberry may have been arrested for a motoring offense this week, but otherwise Yankees’ head coach Joe Torre will be delighted by their form heading into the playoffs. The Blue Jays know that they can’t realistically catch the Yankees - but they are right in the middle of a fascinating wild-card tussle alongside the Red Sox, the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics.

The Indians should probably be considered the favourites to clinch the AL spot (closely followed by Pedro Martinez and the Red Sox) but if they are to keep pace with the rest, the Blue Jays must find a way past the all-conquering Yankees this Wednesday.
