49m,41m+31m (in particular) - 00.30 utc - Aurora Borealis, Northern sky in above the UK - (N/A) - sio:N/A - Not a logging exactly, more an observation. Aurora Borealis seen from Guernsey (N49º30') causing severe disruption across several HF bands, (many stations sounding very "garbled"). This is presumably due to the severe geomagnetic storms which are, at present, causing reports of total blackouts across HF in daylight areas. / (Note: although Aurara Boreais, "The Northern Lights", have been from this location in the past, it is very rare). - (Panasonic RF-B45 -Portable and Icom IC-R75 - Guernsey, Chan. 6274 (aprox) - 14.55 utc - Radio Pandora, Unknown (UK?) - (EE) - sio:133 - Free "Pirate" Radio. / Not totally sure of tx location. / This b'cast, included a history of the bygone offshore station, Radio Atlantis. The signal was a little weak, but what I did hear included interviews with ex. 6395 kHz - 14.20 utc - Laser Hot Hits (?), (Ireland?) - (EE) - sio:223 - Unknown frequency for Laser Hot Hits to b'cast on. Also this was not parallel to other known transmissions, (so not a harmonic or spur). / The only possibility I can think of is a recorded "pirate" or unofficial relay of Laser H.H. / OM with rock and pop mx heard, plus email ad (laserhothits at rock.com). / Any info on this tx would be greatfully received - thanks. - (Panasonic RF-B45 - 1m telescopic ant. - Guernsey, Chan. 7157.9 kHz - 10.25 utc - Radio Caroline, Not known? - (EE) - sio:222 - Unofficial relay of Radio Caroline, not parallel with the official Satellite/Worldspace transmission. Not a very strong signal, but ID heard with pop mx. (Mx and presenter differing from that of parallel Astra digital satellite.) 5775 kHz - 19.00 utc - IRRS (test tx), Italy (Milan) - (EE + Italian) - sio:222-"20kW"+444-"100kW" - Test tx using two powers. / 20kW from 19.00 utc - test tone heard just prior to 19.00. Opening ID's then heard, but too noisy to comment much on prog content. / 100kW from 20.00 utc - (far clearer) ID's, mailing info etc..
