Roy Demeo

Roy DeMeo was a man who at one time scared many people. He is the man who even John Gotti would not take on. Gene Gotti, John's brother, is recorded somewhere on tape saying that he and John are scared to take on DeMeo because Roy has a crew of killers. Roy and his crew were said to be, perhaps the worst serial killers in the United States crime history.

Roy got his start when he became acquainted with Nino Gaggi, a made man in the Gambino family. (Roy had other connections to the Luchese family, but he wanted to be a Gambino.) So he began to prove his worth to Nino. Roy got into the loan sharking business and began making good money. Soon he started other schemes to make some money for Nino and the heads of the family. Roy was beginning to prove his worth to Nino, when Nino asked him to take a big step. Roy committed his first murder for Nino by taking down Paul Rothenburg, a man in a pornography racket. It all started from there.

Roy started his own crew soon after. His crew's original members were Henry Borelli, Anthony Senter, Joey Testa, and Chris Rosenberg. They became the most terrifying crew on the streets. Their first murder explains their methods well. Andrei Katz was their first victim. He had been toying with the police, and had attempted to kill Chris Rosenberg. He failed and so he died. He was the first of many to be lured into their web where he was shot in the head by DeMeo, stabbed in the heart (to stop the blood from pumping) by the others, left for the blood to congeil, chopped up and made to disappear. Many after him had suffered the same fate.

Roy was a killer, but also a very good business man. He made money through loan sharking, pornography, car theft, hijacking, and drugs. He also made money through contracts of murder. Because Roy made so much money for the Gambinos, he wished to be made a member of the family. There are two initiation steps to become a member. You must make money for the family and you must kill for the family. Roy had done both, but Paul Castellano would not let him in. Finally Roy decided he needed to make so much money that Paul couldn't refuse. So he began looking for a new way to make money for the family. He made friends with James Coonan, a young ex-con. Coonan wished to get rid of Mickey Spillane the head of the Westies (the Irish Mob), and take over as the leader of the Westies. Coonan pledged loyalty to the Gambino family in the exchange of Roy's friendship. Roy sealed the pact by, how else, killing Spillane. Because Roy was able to bring an entire gang to the family (which was very profitable), Roy was finally made.

In the years to come Roy did a lot of killing out of vengeance, anger, and greed. The authorities pegged him for around seventy-five murders but suspected him of over 200. They actually charged only around 25. They busted him, though, for a stolen car ring he ran. The car ring was a sweet deal. They sent stolen cars to Kuwait and made plenty of money for everyone. However, when it was busted, it hit hard. They indicted Roy, his crew, Nino, and "Big" Paul Castellano. They were charged with murder and racketeering among other things. This was the end of Roy, who seemed very weak after the indictment. He did not last long after that. The Gambinos were afraid Roy might talk. He was found in the trunkof his cadillac, frozen solid. Nino and two of Roy's crew members did the hit.
