Harold Dynamite Payson's Fiberglass Butt Joint:

This is the first time I have ever done a glass butt joint. Here is how I did it.

Cutting out 4" strips of fiberglass I had left over from building the Nymph.

Looks kind of messy, but really there will be very little sanding. The gap also looks bigger than it is. I think the epoxy made the edge of the plywood much darker than normal.

You can see the stitches pretty good here also.

Here is a shot from a bit farther back. I plan to add another strip of glass on top (inside and out) once the canoe takes final shape.

I used two spreaders (you can see the one on the left) to hold the bottom apart. Once I start to pull the sides in and stitch them in place, the bottom wants to fold up.
