(This is a transcript of an interesting online chat between my self (Me) and someone else (Other) on the topic of Separation and Duality. The other person has given permission to me to give copies of this transcript to others who are interesed in these topic)

Other: Duality HAS a purpose, separation is one aspect of duality, I want to know why duality entraps. I am looking for the purpose of duality. I think it is a tool.

Me: suggestion 1, get gospel of ramakrishna, read up on life of Ramakrishna, for purpose of seeing someone who actively sought duality. Also try to geet some reading on Chaitania. In Chaitanya and Ramakrishna, you will see pursuit of duality in Bakti (devotion... but the ultimate result is absorbtion into Ishta Deva (the diety worshiped). But to address your question of entrapment, you must look up definition of Quid-pro-quo. It is a legal concept, but it is the best term to describe one of the entrapments of duality in western religions. I call it something-for-something mentality. But if we compare western quid-pro-quo mentality with eastern concept of Surrender, action but without fruits, just as Lord Krishna advises Arjuna in Gita. So surrender, and offering of all fruits of action, is a key element. Then if you immerse yourself in readings on Ramakrishna and Chaitanya,...

Other: I watched Mahabharat (150 times), it changed my life. dad died one year ago and mother 7 months ago () before dad died we had a several month conversation regarding separation in life, science, atoms, spirit, duality, and I thought as many folks did, if got created as consciousness to get to know itself, then why is there separation? and I came to the conclusion that if there was not separation, then there would not be union- or no separation, or for lack of a bettwer word, energy (all) etc. 1st law of thermodynamics ... but I still do not understand the PURPOSE OF DUALITY., it seems so useless, harmful,

Me: OK, I think I know the book to help you, Meher Baba on Avatar

I will paraphrase:

Every living creature seeks one and the same goal. In lower beings the search is unconscious. In beings of higher spiritual development, it is a conscious quest or search. The quest or goal is called by many names. Peace, Love, god-knowledge, god-realization, etc. Every being knows fleeting moments of peace, joy contentment, insight inspiration. What each being desires is to make that experience never-ending. Everytime a being feels an emptiness, or lack, and then a moment of fulfillment, it comes from a memory,, either dim or clear, that we were once part of that Whole, our ray was once part of that divine light. The Brahman, sends forth the sensible world, and all sentient beings then, as the inner dweller, the inner observer, the inner enjoyer, Brahman, experiences, millions upon billions of experiences of sentient beings. The deity constantly realizes its Infinitude by setting for Itself innumerable finite obstacles, within sentient beings. This, from the point of view of the Creator is the neverending basking or realization of its own Omnipotence, within the context of the finite,... but from the point of view of the Creature (the individual sentient being), it is a drama of epic proportions, as each being suffers through the dualities of pleasure/pain, love/hate, hot/cold etc,... until transcending all dualities and reaching a state of spiritual equanimity, the individual creature realizes its non-difference or essential unity with the ccreator, then the finite and temporal is transcended, while still in the corporeal, and the resulting union or realization is the avatar, or god-person.

Other: I am crying

Me: tears are a manifestation of the knots being undone. there is anothere book, Answers by Mother Mera.

Other: I am thanking you, can you feel me thanking you?

Me: This book will help you understand more about the duality, and also the undoing of the knots. You must understand a verse in the Bhagavgita. Lord Krishna says to Arjuna, "Of thousands of people, scarcely one in thousands seeks after ME, and of the thousands of those who seek after ME, scarcely one in Thousands comes to know my Nature"

To understand this verse, you must also look at something that Mother Meera says in "Answers" someone asks her, "What is the purpose of re-birth" Mother Meera answers, "It takes far more than one human lifetime to achieve union with the Divinity" You must understant that you are at a point or stage of ripening, and readiness not simply from the experiences which you have had in this one lifetime, but a ripening of cumulative experiences from many lifetimes.

Other: Now I am crying more. Thank you.You are a Compliment in Life, and my life(s)...

Me: It is failure to understand these things which leads people to the folly of trying to convert all people to One Truth in one lifetime The very evident fact that this has never happened in these many thousans of years, provides a simple evidence fof truth and necessity of rebirth, and spiritual ripening. Think of the many centuries which have passes, and the few individuals which we have seen of the caliber of Ghandi or RamaKrishna or Meher Baba.,, perhaps only a few dozen per century, such is the slow nature of the ripening of the special fruit of this special tree"

Other: I sincerely wish I could hug you

Me: You gonna do just find, many years ago, in this century in Calcuttta or Bombay, there was a Holy man, who had reached a high level of ripening. he lived in the city, and to his small quarters, came a handful of students, disciples. Well, one day a stranger found his way to the Holy Man's quarters. The stranger entered the group for one meeting, and the stranger asked the Holy Man a certain number of diffiicult spiritual qauestions. The stranger left and did not return again for a second meeting. Some weeks went by, and one of the students asked the Holy Man, "What of that stranger, who came here once, several weeks ago, asked some questions, and never returned.... The Holy Man answered, "It is too late for him. (in the good sense). Now that he has begun to ask such questions, he has already embarked upon the Path to Enlightenment. He will now ineluctibly and irresistably be carried along until the process is complete.

Other: you are wonderful

Me: It is just like the tree which has many green apples, but the few which are red and ripening, have no choice. They are destined to fall. They cannot avoit it. This is where the concept of Surrender becomes important. At a certain stage, you become self-conscious of the ripening process of the inevitability and you surrender. You recognize the fruit that you are, but in your surrender, you become the offering. It is then that the duality will cease. And yet the relationship will be eternal. I am just an old parrot , whose cage has been in some enlightened parlours.

Other: Thank you Om

Me: Anyone can read these words, repeat these words, write these words But they have no meaning without the Ripeness.

Other: You do not know how much you have done for me

Me: There was a poet named Jallaladin Rumi. His writings helped to develop the Sufi Mystical movement in Islam. Rumi once said, "Do not seek water, for water is everywhere, SEEK THIRST"

Other: I am thirsty

Me: What he ment was, do not seek God, for God is everywhere, seek Thirst for God. That is why Mother Theresa wrote on the walls of her convent only the words "I thirst". That is why the verse in the Psalms "O Lord, I have thirsted after Thee like a deer in a waterless land."

Other: thank u

Me: welcome

Me: But in all the sacred scriptures of of all the religions, there are only certain sentences, or even phrases which are essential , such as "I Thirst". and only when you are at the proper stage of ripening will the passage take on its appropriate meaning, even though you may have read it hundreds of times.

Other: My dad used to say it dropped to the level of conviction..

Me: Stop and think of the words "Search the scriptures, for therein shall you find eternal life"

Other: ok

Me: If what is to be found in the scriptures is 10 commandments or something explicit, then why search? But king Solomon said in Proverbs, "A word of wisdom,, fitly spoken, is like the apple of gold, in fittings of silver". In those times, a goldsmith would make a golden apple and then place it inside of a very fine silver filigree fitted casing. So fin, that from a distance it appeared as a silver apple, as one approaches closer,, a glint of gold is seen, a hint, until one takes it in hand, and realizes its true nature, a golden apple, within a silver casing. But this process of realization itself, is a process of ripening. In the Svetasvatara Upanisad, it is Brahman speking saying "I am the source of every Sacred Scripture, I am the source of every Religious Creed". Until we can come to this realization,, then any other concept of Divinity is corrupt and impure, or rather, is only a partial realization of the ultimate reality. But when we look into the face of an enlightened spiritual being, a Ghandi, a Mother Theresa, then what we see with our spiritual eyes is palpable, sensible, and the same. It transcends gender, it trancends creed, it transcends language.

Other: Emanation of purity I see, same as with classical music to me

Me: Yes, music is music, food is food, only outwardly are appearances difference. So sanctity is sanctity. The top of the mountain is the mountains top. The path leading there is forgotten.

Other: You do not understand your impact

Me: We all wind up at the same destination, it just takes each of us a different number of lifetimes. St. Seraphim of Sarov was the last Russian saint to be elevated before the Revolution. St. Seraphim wrote, "Save yourself, and a thousand around you will be saved" It is the same concept as "Light one candle rather than curse the darkness.

Other: You are so sweet, truely sweet,"

Me: The one candle which we can light, is our Inner light, to curse the darkness, is to curse the darkness (suppose) of human nature which is what we constantly hear around us. Why cant people be more like this, why cant everyone do that

but Ghandi, an Mother Theresa each lit that ONE candle, an the light is still shining today.

Other: I do not want that I did not hold my mother on her death bed to not become part of the one, I will too light...

Me: Whatever you do, do it for yourself, and that is the only one you can really help. But if you are really successful, then you do it for all, you help all. Dont worry too much, just visualize a huge whirlpool, a vortex, and you are being swept closer and closer to the center, so simply surrender, and let the water do its work.
