Does anyone want to hear a fascinating TRUE STORY about the scientist who invented NYLON in the 1930's or 40's (i think)???? it was on PBS Television...
This scientist was a real perfectionist... totally driven... a work-a-holic...he was successful in inventing NYLON... and the NY was chosen in the name NYLON because it was invented in NEW YORK STATE...
But this perfectionist scientist... for years... always CARRIED IN HIS POCKET A CAPSULE OF CYANIDE... he was a very depressed.. very suicidal type of personality...
So EVEN THOUGH HE WORKED 80 HOURS per week in the lab , to invent things like NYLON...
even though he was very successful...he constantly need the comfort of knowing that THAT CYANIDE capsule was in his pocket... that he could "escape and end it all" any moment he chose
This is a story is about a tragic figure of a gifted man... who found his moment to moment existence so agonizing... that he needed the comfort of knowing that his "emergency escape exit" was no further than his shirt pocket
well... this gifted chemist worked for many years...
discovered some very important synthetics... but in his 50's or 60's he finally took that cyanide
tablet that he had carried all his life...
