Welcome to Southern Indiana Racewalkers located in Evansville, Indiana.
You don't have to run when you can walk really fast and that is what SIRW is all about. Whether you are interested in competitive race walking or fitness, SIRW is for you.
The 28 members of SIRW run the gamut from 70+ to 30, men and women with skills ranging from brand new walkers to National Master Champions. Club activities include a weekly training session at Wesselman Park on Tuesdays starting at 5 PM, a monthly meeting on the first Monday of each month and a monthly (most of the time) newsletter. When available, we try to have a speaker every other month or so.

SIRW also hosts several state and regional level USATF race walks at the Wesselman Park course which is certified for 5k, 10k, 15k and 20k distances. In 1999, we hosted the Indiana State USATF 20k Championship and the USATF North Region 10k races. In addition to USATF events, SIRW usually has 1-2 fun races a year including the famous (or is it infamous) Bogan Classic-Probably Illegal and Jungle Rules Race Walk. Along with the pure racewalks, SIRW provides monitors and RW judges to several area combined races including the Haubstadt Laufenfest, the YMCA 5-10-15k series races, |
the USI Alumni 5k, as well as several others. The club currently has 15 USATF certified RW officials and judges.
Cool Stuff:
SIRW has had several fund raising projects including two collector T-Shirt issues.
The first sported a Robot Race Walker and the phrase "You don't have to
Run when you can Walk Really Really Fast!" This shirt was shipped to close
to a dozen countries and was very popular. The second shirt had a "No Running"
logo and on the back said, "Go ahead and laugh, but if you're reading this
I'm ahead of you."
In addition to the shirts, SIRW also sold Race Walking note cards and art poster. The painting was by Cedric Hustace of Evansville of a scene from the 15k National Championships.
Membership:
SIRW memberships are $15.00 for individuals, $20 for Family. If you do not live in the immediate Tri-State area we have discounted membership of $10.00 individual and $15.00 family. You may send in your membership application via our online form.
