INTRODUCTION
Sinister Apocalypse created a new form of music now known as "shriek-metal" or "gothkillica". They were the pioneers of the new style of avant-garde gothic metal and released a barrage of all-out punishing hits such as "Laws of Death," "In Loving Hate," "Evil Beginning," "Satisfying Satan," and "Gothic Computer," among others. Although their lifespan was relatively brief, the band enjoyed a great deal of success during their short time together. Many fans have asked if there is any possibility of an upcoming reunion, to which the band members have been somewhat vague. Nevertheless, none of the most recent band members (including Lost Soul, The Cleanser, The Minister, and Thrustmaster) have ruled anything out as of yet.
The origins of the band can be traced back to one night in December of 1995. At that time, the lineup consisted of vocalist Dark Matter, guitarist Dark Knight, keyboardist and vocalist Lost Soul, and programmer and vocalist Nightcrawler. However, many of the original members of the band dropped out or were brutally murdered in still unresolved crimes. The Minister joined the band in 1997 after the release of the band's second album, "Further Into Darkness." The band recorded one more album, "Blood Fiends," in 1999 before going on a three-year hiatus.
2002 was the year that saw Sinister Apocalypse returned to the forefront in gothic metal, with their critically-acclaimed album "Resurrection." The album featured a number of new changes and faces, most notably The Cleanser, who, in addition to playing lead guitar, shared vocal and songwriting duties with Lost Soul and The Minister. Guest vocalist The Mistress of Doubt contributed lyrics and vocals to "Avatar," one of eleven tracks recorded at Pain and Suffering Studios during the Autumn of 2002. "Resurrection" spawned the hit singles "In Loving Hate," "Evil Beginning," and "Laws of Death," but also featured fan favourites such as "Dark Dream" and "Decompose."
Just one year after releasing "Resurrection," the band toiled away in their studio, surfacing in the summer of 2003 to release "Domination." On what would ultimately turn out to be their final album, the band invited several guest stars such as Thrustmaster, Prince Harming, Goddess of Darkness, and The Mistress of Doubt to contribute their talents to several of the songs featured on the album. Although "Domination" featured such a wide array of guests, the album was very cohesive and unified. However, the strain of day-to-day recordings and ideological differences brought tensions to a boil until one particularly bloody evening in July 2003 that saw two of the band members taken to hospital for stab wounds. It was the beginning of the end for Sinister Apocalypse, but they still had one more surprise to unleash: "Satisfying Satan."
The first single from "Domination" took the gothic metal community by complete surprise when it was released in the summer of 2003. "Satisfying Satan" saw the group take a new, melodic turn with the help of Thrustmaster's songwriting and arguably one of the catchiest choruses ever recorded, as sung by Lost Soul. The song helped propel "Domination" to the top of the Gothic Underground charts, along with other tracks such as "Gothic Computer" and "fleshbags," which was one of the most brutal, unrelenting tracks the band ever made. "Domination" also saw the band experiment with horror-fiction, notably with the epic "Lake of Blood," that the band had originally hoped to use as a feature film, but instead released it as a ten-minute spoken word piece.
After the breakup of the band in August of 2003, the members each went their separate ways, choosing to focus on other life goals such as zoophily, religion, or circus sideshow entertainment. The band members have been absent from the spotlight for two years now, but have not ruled out the possibility of a new collaboration together sometime in the near future. The fanbase eagerly awaits their next move...
