ARCHIVAL MATERIALS
|
Archival records of the Zoroastrian religion and Parsi settlement in India are to be researched, recorded and restored.
To gather all archival material and preserve it through microfilm, digital recording, manuscripts and books creating a National Archives on the Parsi Zoroastrians at the IGNCA is one of the main aims of the Project.
The archival location at a National Centre would enable researchers from all over the world to locate material under one roof. The IGNCA has the technical expertise and the storage systems which enable digital recordings to be maintained at the required temperature and humidity. Inputs from the archival section of the Project would be reflected in the planned Parsi museum. Dissemination of archival knowledge on the Internet and Web can also be done through systems linked with the IGNCA.
The following aspects of archival importance are to be covered.

To microfilm, preserve, restore and renovate one of the most important of Zoroastrian Archival Libraries, and place some of this material on the CD-ROM. A donation for this purpose of Microfilming and restoring has already been received by UNESCO through the generosity of Mrs. P.N. Jungalwalla of New Delhi in memory of her husband the Late Dr. Nowshir Jungalwalla and we hope to start work as soon as possible. The structure of the building also needs attention and fire safety precautions must be ensured in this predominantly wooden structure. |

The Zoroastrian material should be microfilmed/ digitalized/placed on CD-ROM. Some books can be identified for reprinting since they are of immense value to the community and national archives and give very accurate historical details of the early stages of Parsi history in India. |

Collating, translating and reprinting of essential books both academic and of general interest e.g. Parsi Prakash. The books that will be created during the Project as a Series can form an Enclyopaedia of the Parsis. Some of these will draw upon the work started by the late Shri. Homi Talyarkhan, and expand it to include the publications, reprints and other books that this Project will generate. This will be a written record in addition to the archival material on Digi-Beta and CD-ROM format. Thus a complete written, audio, visual, digital, archival record will remain of the Parsi Zoroastrian Community for a world wide audience fulfilling the ultimate aim of the Project. |
Weapons e.g. mace from Dadgahs, spears from Adrans and swords from Atash Behrams to be preserved. If any such are disused in defunct Fire Temples they can be preserved in the archives/museum. The Freedom Struggle
|
|
Many old Parsi homes contain valuable Indian and Western musical instruments many of them over a century in age. There are also collections of ancient musical scores as also records in 78 rpm of Indian Music. Some of the largest collections of western music in India are found in Parsi houses. Documentation, recording and preservation of this is needed. |
The archival and living culture section can be inter-linked to create a Living Archive as has been done in the Portugese ancestral village, Old Goa, Goa state. |
The flag unfurled by Madam Cama or a copy of it. Other documents, letters of political and sociological importance during the National freedom struggle are to be collected as part of the Archives. Homai Vyarewalla's archival collection of photographs should be added and preserved for posterity. |
