The danger of a list like this is that it may become nothing more than a program -- or that the less important things on it will take on disproportionate importance. You could think of life in civilization as a prison -- the kind that denies you the freedom to live harmlessly -- and your quest is to seek out the cracks in the walls. So, figure out your own priorities. Enjoy your life. Additional suggestions are welcome.
Spread the message of B.
Many people recommend Quinn's books to friends and relatives, talk about them, note them as influences, and leave them lying around.
Quinn's books and tapes would make good birthday or Christmas presents for anyone with an ecological or philosophical cast of mind.
Some people have distributed in pamphlet form some of Quinn's speeches. Such pamphlets, as well as reviews of the books, could be enclosed with letters or cards as items of interest.
Keep books on your waiting room table or pamphlets on your desk.
Some people go into chat rooms specifically to suggest the books and describe their ideas.
Wear New Tribal Ventures' T-shirts and caps, wear buttons, have bumper stickers, carry books, and explain them to anyone who asks.
This page is my way of making the message of B known to those interested. A lot of other people have devoted their websites or parts of them to Quinn's ideas and books.
Condense, expand on, and describe in your own words the message of B. Write your own articles, essays and parables and publish or distribute them.
Express the message of B in your own way.
(The more B literature and art in the world, the closer we are to independence from Taker culture.)
Create art, literature, music, and films based on the ideas of B. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam did this. Go to the World Hall of the Gallery, see some others' works, and send me your own!
Communicate and commune with friends of Ishmael.
Check out my list of links, for instance.
Encourage debate about Quinn's ideas.
(The more intelligent debate we provoke, the better we will understand the truth and the more these ideas will be spread. BUT do not waste time trying to convince an illogical or hopelessly stubborn person to see the light; concentrate on convincing people who are open and interested.)
Keep an open mind.
Remain polite and tolerant. Nobody takes
Develop tribal relationships, groups and businesses.
(The more tribes in the world, the closer we are to independence from Taker civilization.)
Advertise on Ishmael sites for friends of Ishmael to form tribes.
Develop communities, tribes, or even communes (the Intentional Communites Web Site has some information on this). (Quinn doesn't endorse communes, but they can be tribal.)
Try to fulfill a basic need with your business, such as food, paper, ink, tissue and toilet paper, spring water, dishes, containers, soap, shampoo, clothing, furniture, blankets, fuel, childcare, or transportation.
Don't have children, or have as few as possible.
(The more people voluntarily limit the size of their families, the easier it will be to halt the population growth. BUT the population problem will not be solved in this way alone.)
Use redundant birth control.
Have yourself sterilized.
Adopt a child, hold one in foster care, babysit, run a daycare (perhaps a tribal one), spend time with relatives', friends', or neighbors' kids, join a "Big Brothers" or "Big Sisters" group, work with kids, or even get a pet, instead of having children of your own. I know it's not easy for people.
Support environmental protection programs.
(The more and the better programs we have to protect the environment, the more time we will have to spread our message and stop destroying the environment. BUT even all these programs together will not solve the environmental problem in themselves.)
Go to SaveRainforest.net, Care2.com's Race for the Rainforest, and Care2.com's Race for the Big Cats, and click on the button once a day to save a small piece of land. Tell your friends about these sites too.
Vote for candidates who represent the best interests of the world.
Write to, call, fax, and email governments and businesses, encouraging environmental protection.
Support environmental activism groups in protests, demonstrations, communicating with companies, boycotts, petitions, and campaign funds. Here's a brief list:
Rainforest Action Network (RAN)
World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
Project Underground
Amazon Watch
Earth First!
The Nature Conservancy
Instead of gifts, or in addition to them, give someone a donation in their honor to an environmental activism group. The Nature Conservancy is my favorite because it actually buys and preserves land.
Trick-or-treat or have your kids or students trick-or-treat with "donation bags" as well as treat bags. Decorate bags or boxes and paste logos and words on them. Explain that you're collecting money for an organization. (Be ready to explain and provide material on the organization's cause if they're suspicious or curious.)
Let others know about environmental causes.
Make some lifestyle choices about the environment. Hang-drying your clothes, using energy-efficient appliances and flourescent lightbulbs, recycling, buying recycled and recyclable materials, conserving water, carpooling, biking, and taking buses are all useful ideas. Any "Save the Earth" book will give you more ideas.
Support indigenous peoples and the programs that protect them.
(The more indigenous peoples there are, the more examples of Leaver life we will have to learn from.)
Cultural Survival
The U'wa Project
The Native American Rights Fund (NARF)
Support population control programs.
Support tribal groups and businesses.
Depend more on tribal businesses and less on nontribal ones.
If you have children, teach your children the message of B. Learn about indigenous peoples' childcare and its applications in our society from The Continuum Concept by Jean Liedloff and from her website at The Liedloff Continuum Network.
