Ngao Ya Mzizi/Root Shield

Operation Grass-Root Shield, is exactly that; it's a shield for protecting our youths. The organization addresses such issues as jobs, job training, job creation as well as making sure that our youths stay drug free. Root Shield is a private,"Non Governmental Organization".

Drugs:

If caught in the drug web, it is the duty of the organization to ensure that such people are seduced away from such activities. Our young are the leaders of our tomorrow. To sacrifice them to drugs is tantamount to destroying their chances at running their country and therefore guaranteeing their freedoms and the continuation of our republic, our democracy and indeed, our revolution. This is abdication of our responsibilities as leaders of today. We got us here, we can get us out.

The methods for so doing are many but in our case, we will only concentrate on the simplest. "Giving free needles ( syringes )" to the afflicted and finally getting them to our rehabilitation center specially equiped for people in such conditions and difficulties. This will be carried out after neccessarily gaining their confidence and trust. The needle exchange program will serve as the entry point to our system of therapy.

After going through the treatment at the Rehabilitation Center, The Shield, will find them jobs and work to make their lives worthwhile and meaningful and thus, become very productive members of our country and society. Centers away from the Populus will be set aside for the use of the addicts. This will shield our young people from seeing and mimicking such destructive behavior.

Free needles, for those on the upper end of drug usage, will be given from such centers. From these places, it is a small step to advising these people to go to the rehabilitation centers. Needle exchange program can also be carried out at these locations. Such exchange programs can also help keep syringes and their temptations away from the streets and therefore, from our ever eager young children and young minds. We should retain some of the people that had gone through The Rehabilitation Program for counseling the untried against any recreational drug use and drug abuse.

Jobs:

There are many places that can be used for finding and soliciting jobs for our young people. We ( The Shield ), could of course, create them.

1) Chicken farms:

a) Eggs b) Eating chicken. Local chickens should be given a chance as well as broilers.

2) Cattle farms:

Here, the concentration will be milk for our people especially for our children.

3)Forwarding enterprise:

Dock working will also be brought to the forefront at this time. Arrangements should be made for many of our youths to work in the moving and shipping of goods and items from Zanzibar to elsewhere in the World. Our rates will be more competitive than any in these wonderful Islands.

An arm of the Shield will be set up as a Moving and Receiving company for hiring people for such jobs. Criteria for hiring and firing will be set up by the subsidiary company that will be responsible in the day to day running of the company.

4) Grants and Aids from different and various countries, groups and sectors. -Israel might be helpful in the Chicken venture, since this particular endeavor was theirs in the first place. Other countries such as Canada might be approached to help in various capacities including counseling our addicts.

5) Cigarette factory could be reopened and our people find employment in this area. Our special cigarettes containing cloves, are still popular in the world market.

6) The soap factory can also be reopened. The facilities are still available.

7) Goat farming; lucrative market- goat cheese very popular in the World.

8) Continued search for more job creating opportunities.

All these ventures will be under the stewardship of The Shield as private endeavors rather than government projects.
