HISTORY OF THE DISCIPLINES OF CAPPADOCIANS AND GIOVANNIS

If the Giovanni are Childer of Cappadocius -- why are their Disciplines & Weakness different?

The Cappadocians had Mortis, Fortitude and Auspex, with the weakness of looking like a fresh corpse. Many also had visionary powers (via Flaw or Merit.) Some Cappadocians suffered from an advanced form of the clan weakness, they looked like old corpses.

The Lamia sub-clan had Mortis, its own Discipline (Deimos) and for some reason had Potence. They are mentioned as not being as pallid as the Cappadocians, so they hadn't the flawed Appearance. They carried a plague which they transmitted to mortals during feeding.

The Dark Ages Giovanni had Mortis, Fortitude, and Auspex. Necromancy was an optional "4th Clan Discipline" (in the form of a 2 pt Merit). They are noted as lacking the visionary powers, but that appears to be the only "secondary weakness" missing.

The Modern Age Giovanni, have Necromancy, Potence, and Dominate. It is stated in the Clanbook that the Giovanni abandoned Mortis for Necromancy. The Giovanni claim the modern Clan weakness appeared only after the Giovanni diablerized the Lamia. (Deimos's second level power has the same affect as the modern Giovanni's bite.) If diablerizing the Lamia caused this mutating effect, it may of also resulted in the gaining of the Lamia's Potence Discipline as well. However, others think the switch to Potence was the result of embracing ghouls. As for why the Giovanni switched to Dominate, it may have been a choice to exchange the last of the old Disciplines for the Discipline of control.

Note: There is a story of Japheth laying a curse upon the vessel containing the blood use to embrace Augustus Giovanni. Some claim this curse became the weakness of the Giovanni bloodline, but this does not explain why the new weakness did not appear for nearly four centuries.
