Q. Can I bring a photo assistant and makeup artist? A. Makeup artists are welcome to attend, and always receive free admission. Due to the large turnout at our outdoor events, photographic assistants usually get in the way of both models and other photographers participating. It is for that reason that we don't permit photo assistants to attend. You are welcome to bring light stands and 'go-bos' for lighting assistance. Q. Are photographers welcome to bring model releases? A. Yes. Model releases are welcome. Most attending models will sign a release with the promise of some proofprints coming back to them from our events. Images of models captured at all events are not available for public or media release without signed releases from models. Model releases will be available to purchase from models for $20 at the studio workshops only. Q. Is this one of those 'turkey shoots' with hundreds of photographers and only a few models? A. Over the past 8 years, our 'model to photographer' ratios have averaged one model to three photographers. We own the bragging rights of having the most models of any photographic modeling event in the nation. On many instances, you will have opportunities to photograph models 'one on one'. It is true that some of the more promising and attractive models usually attract a crowd of 6, 8, or 10 photographers. Q. What type of lighting & camera equipment would you recommend bringing? A. Most professional photographers attending our events shoot with the pro-line of cameras from Nikon, Canon, Leica & Minolta. With the plunging costs of digital cameras and video, many photographers are opting to capture images on video disk and flash memory. Recommended lighting equipment would be reflectors, on camera flashes and 'go-bos' to create shade where needed. Our studio glamour workshops are a different story. You will need to bring a sync cable, with recommended cameras being hi-end 35mm, 2 1/4, and digital. Q. Hey... what about free parking, snackbars and restrooms... got any? A. Every location we have used in the past 8 years has provided restroom and changing facilities for both models and photographers. With our events starting at 11am, we would recommend eating a hardy breakfest just before arriving. Our snackbar usually only provides some light 'munchies' and soft drinks. No alcoholic beverages are permitted at events. Closing ceremonies are conducted at 4pm, with the introduction of agents and promotors, and models cashing in their model money. We always provide models and photographers with a convenient dinner location that we can all meet at following the event. Free parking is always available within a short walking distance from the photos areas. Q. What's the deal with this 'model money' stuff? How much of it should I buy to give to the models I photograph? A. Every photographer attending both our outdoor supermodel photoshoots and our studio workshops must purchase a minimum of $20 in model money. All photographers must give model money to the models while photos are being taken. Do not pass out model money at closing ceremonies. If your find yourself working with alot more models than you originally anticipated, we strongly recommend that you purchase an additional $10 or $20 more. We have had several 'generous' photographers purchase $200, even $300 in additional model money. Our studio glamour workshops also require a $40 'at the door' fee that pays for studio usage and model money. Remember... models attending our events are not paid by Select Models. Their only source of income comes from your generosity. Q. At the indoor 'Studio Glamour Workshops', what kind of backgrounds and lighting setups do you have? A. We have 9 different backgrounds ranging from muslins to silk dropcloths, with a boudoir couch, feather boas, and a variety of glamour props available to use. Our power supplies are 'teched' in advance to provide you with correct f-stops and lighting configurations. You may also adjust the lighting to accomedate whatever kind of setup you are interested in. |
