Brief Summary of The Story
Toshihiko Tanaka decided to go to
Kakegawa high school after graduating from junior high, along with
Kazuhiro Hiramatsu and
Kenji Shiraishi, the other two members of the Golden Trio in Kakenjshi Junior High football team.
The reason they wanted to join this new established school was because they wanted to play along side with the team's junior caption
Yoshiharu Kubo.
A year before, freshman player Kubo led the two-month-old team to the quarterfinal in the highly competitive Shizuoka province tournament single handedly.
Although there are some problems at the begining, the new players finally fit the team well.
And after being trained by Kubo, Toshihiko succeeds a very powerful Shot by his golden left foot.
With all the new factors and the superb leading by Kubo, they reach the province final.
However, Kubo passes away before the game.
Surrounding by grief, Kakegawa loses and is knocked out from the winter tournament.
The new team needs to rebuild itself before the
National Tournament in summer, without their leader Kubo. Assistant caption
Atsushi Kamiya remains strong and shows great leadership to replace the caption spot; and new comer
Keigo Mahori fulfills Kubo's mid-field position.
This totally broked team inherits the spirit of Kubo and again aimes for the national championship.
Toshihiko, who takes Kubo's number 10 jersey, now needs to endeavor for his skill in order to reach their goal.
Besides, he needs to strive for his love,
Kazumi Endou, against his best friend Kazuhiro.

Comment on this Story
Football animes are very common in Japan,
Shoot! is neither as classic nor as popular as Caption Tsubasa .
However, it is definitely the best soccer comic I have ever seen.
Without exaggerate skill and crazy thought about Japan is the
best team in the world, simple school soccer story is more
acceptable to me. (Although still, that's pretty unreal.)
Author gave each character a unique and clean-cut
personality. The depiction of blazing spirit in the game is
very real and gets me excited. Moreover, there is a lovely and
touchy love line too.
If you have a chance, try to watch the anime series, since watching
a moving match is always better than books only.
