Nightmare: A Rescue from Oblivion
by Leslie Asbury

Here I am-- falling, falling...
Plunging into who-knows-where.
Falling faster, and faster--
My weight is my death.

The speed picks up yet more,
The colors swirling around me so fast that
They blur into one colorless sheet.

Colors of unspeakable beauty,
A mind trip through Infinity--
Then something breaks-- Insanity.
And I felt myself falling, falling into
Who-knows-where.

I know where now-- Oblivion waits me.
My body dies with mind when and if
The end to this plunge comes-- the impact
Shattering my bones.

Then a revelation occurs--
Outside, another mind, pulling me back.
My support, my rescue;
Slowing me down, Bringing me back--
Through Infinity.

The colors regain their definition,
And stop--
Then I awake.
