How can you help your senior dog get more out of life?

  1. Frequent check-ups with your vet. Most problems can be corrected if detected early.

  2. Be patient and understanding. If your dog becomes incontinent, for example, don't fuss about the soiled rug. Instead find ways to adjust things to suit his life now.

  3. Groom your dog frequently. Teeth cleaning , nail trimming and your usual grooming routine. Not only will your dog look and feel good, but it continues the bonding process.

  4. Remember that as your dog ages, he may not be able to go on those mile long walks. Depending on your dog's condition, a few 'short' walks may be better.

  5. Watch his diet. As a dog ages, obesity tends to occur. Also, protein is very important to an aging dog.

As always.....be sure to consult your vet anytime something unusual happens. Write down and keep a log of things you may notice. What seems like a little something to you... when put all together, can be symptoms of something more serious.

Ask your vet questions...that's what they are there for!
