What
to do if your dog is lost
Even
the best dogs get away sometimes. Here are a few tips to
help your dog find his way home.
Report it to the police and
animal control
Enlist the help of friends
and neighbors
Canvas the neighborhood
Print up brightly colored
flyers and include your dog's picture on them.
Post them where ever legal.
Place an ad in your local
paper...and remember, someone needs to remain at
home to answer the phone.
Answer 'found dog' ads in
the paper
Contact local breed rescues
Visit your local animal
shelter...leave a flyer with them also
Call your local post office
and ask that postal workers keep a lookout while
on their routes
Community bulletin boards
Place an ad at all local vet
offices
To
try to avoid this....
Keep
your dog in a fenced in area. Check the fence often and
make repairs as needed. Make use of a leash if this is
not possible.
Even
when you take all the proper precautions...accidents
happen. One of the most important things you can do is to
be sure your dog has a collar and name tag. The name tag
should have the dog's name...your name and address and
phone number. Check the collar often to be sure this tag
is on secure!
