With this 1993 television series, Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino once again attempted to start a new Gundam saga. Just as Gundam F91 was set thirty years after Char's Counterattack, V Gundam moved the clock forward an additional thirty years for another fresh start. It also features the youngest Gundam hero ever; at thirteen, Usso Ebbing is two years younger than Amuro Ray in the original series, and a year younger than runner-up Judo Ashita.
Despite its simplistic animation and gaudy design work, V Gundam proved to be as grueling and intense as Z Gundam. Still, though it ran a record 51 episodes, V Gundam failed to spawn a new Gundam franchise, and as of this writing it represents the end of the Universal Century saga (if you don't count Tomino's Gaia Gear novels, that is).
