MS-06E Zaku Reconnaissance Type

A variant of the Zaku II produced early in the One Year War, the Zaku Reconnaissance Type was designed specifically for scouting and intelligence-gathering. To this end it was fitted with a variety of cameras and sensors, the same high-output thrusters used on the S-type Zaku II, a pair of chest-mounted boosters for emergency getaways, and a 10% propellant increase for greater range. Approximately a hundred such mobile suits were created by converting standard C-type and, later, F-type Zaku IIs.

MS-06E-3 Zaku Flipper

An upgrade of the Zaku Reconnaissance Type, this E-3 model was produced around the middle of the One Year War. In addition to the optical cameras of its predecessor, the new version was equipped with an assortment of laser and sonic sensors, enabling it to gather data over a wide spectrum. The compound sensor fins on its back swiveled back and forth during operation, leading frontline troops to give it the affectionate nickname "Flipper." Sixteen such units were created, and were used most notably against the Federation's Revil fleet in the last weeks of the war.
