Another equipment option tested by the Ace Corps was the C type, or Gelgoog Cannon. Equipped with a powerful RA-2 beam cannon, the Gelgoog Cannon could also carry hand weapons like beam rifles or bazookas, not to mention an optional forearm-mounted rocket launcher. The mobile suit's awesome firepower made it suitable not only for support fire, but for direct attacks on enemy fleets. And thanks to its backpack - a modified version of the B type's booster pack - the Gelgoog Cannon retained enough mobility to hold its own in combat with enemy mobile suits.
The Gelgoog Cannon was a favorite of the Ace Corps, including 1st Lieutenant Thomas Kurtz, whose unit sported a distinctive "dazzle camouflage" color scheme. Right before the Battle of A Bao A Qu, twelve of the Ace Corps's Gelgoog Cannons participated in Operation Clarion, a surprise attack on the Federation's gathering Tianem Fleet. The ambush destroyed two Salamis-class cruisers, one Antietam-class carrier, 14 mobile suits and 22 Saberfish fighters, but cost the Ace Corps two Gelgoog Cannons (and damaged three more).
Only 15 Gelgoog Cannons were produced, including those used by the Ace Corps. However, it's said that the Zeons had prepared parts to convert another 122 Gelgoogs to this devastating heavily-armed form.
