Members of Salisbury Chapter at Region II Awards Breakfast

September 1999 presented Salisbury Chapter, Order of DeMolay a new first:  competing on a Chapter wide basis in a regional ritual competition.  On Friday, September 10, members and advisors from Salisbury Chapter left Salisbury in three vehicles to travel to Maryland's Masonic Grand Lodge in Cockeysville to take a bus trip with DeMolays from all over Maryland to Cooperstown, New York.  They arrived, a little late, in two vehicles, having been involved in an automobile accident along the way.  Fortunately, nobody was hurt.

A lengthy bus ride to Cooperstown, and the automobile accident earlier, did not dampen their spirits.  Being the first Chapter to compete in the Chapter Proficiency Competition may have caused a few more butterflies in the stomach, but the nervousness did not diminish the quality of the Chapters fine ritual work.

Later in the day, other members competed individually in other cat- egories.  Past Master Councilor Jackson Todd competed in the Magnificent Seven, Open Division.  Past Master Councilor competed in the Ceremony of Lights, Open Division.  Master Councilor Jacob Todd competed in the Flower Talk, Open Division, as well as the Magnificent Seven, Open Division.  All of Salisbury's members stayed around the competition site all day, offering moral support to the individual competitiors.

Sunday morning brough a lot of anticipation.  After a fulfilling break- fast, with DeMolay members and advisors from all over Region II, the awards were announced.  The Chapter scored about 200 points more than they did at the State level, but, unfortunately, not enough to win.  A cheer rose up from Salisbury's table, however, when the Rookie of the Year award was given to Brother Jeff Cook of General Torbert Chapter in Lower Delaware, a new Chapter which is the closest one to Salisbury and to which our members have become good friends and brothers.  The cheers were even louder as the Magnificent Seven, Open Division Cham- pionship was given to our own Master Councilor, Brother Jacob Todd!
