Summary: Angel starts to wonder if the gem of amara is really gone after some strange things begin to happen.
As always the characters from buffy and angel are property of Joss, though Evelyn is mine.
Author's Note The first part is sad, but after the angst it gets happier.

Angel awoke to the sound of pounding on his door. Wence he opened it, he saw a woman with long blonde hair. She appeared to have been crying and he felt compelled to console her. "Hurry in," he told her.

"Angel, can I stay with you?" she asked him.

"Evelyn, what's wrong?"

"Something terrible happened and I needed to come see you. Spike's been dusted."

"Does Buffy, know?"

"Yes, she witnessed him stake himself. He was so upset over things and I was away, and he just..."

"I understand," he put his arms around her. "and of coarse you can stay here."

"Thank you so much, Angel." she kissed him softly on the cheek.

The next afternoon, Angel was awoken again, this time from the telephone. "Hello," he called into the phone.

"Angel, it's Buffy. Do you know where Evelyn went off to?"

"Don't worry about it Buffy, she's going to be staying here until she feels better."

Just then Evelyn walked into the room. "Angel, Cordy wants you to look over something."

"I'll be down in a minute." Angel told her, then turned back to the phone. "That was her now."

"She did sound alot better, well I had better let you go to work. Besides, Willow's been hassling me to get to the magick shop. Bye." Buffy said.

"Bye." Angel replied hanging up the phone.

"So, who was it?" Evelyn asked.

"Buffy just needed some information on a vampire." Angel hid.

"Really." she gave him a I-know-your-hiding-something look. "Doesn't matter, Cordy needs you out there."

"Well, let's go." he said leading her out of his room.

In the main room Cordy was sitting calmly behind the counter, typing on the computer.

"You needed me?" Angel asked.

"Yeah, Wolfram and Hart has gotten real secretive lately. Think their up to something? I mean their web site has even been shut down "temporaraly". That just seems really strange to me." Cordy said without looking up from the computer screen.

While the two of them discussed the situation, Eveyln couldn't help but notice how dark and glomy it was outside. "I'll be back in a while." she told them, "I'm going to talk a short walk."

"Okay." Angel said not really paying any attencion to her.

As Evelyn walked she remembered a story Angel had once told her about the gem of amara. Wondering if it was real she walked all the way over to Angel's old apartment, or at least where it was. She stood before the wreckage and used a spell to summon the pieces of the ring and the gem it once held. To her suprize it worked and there in her hands was the now fully restored Gem of Amara. The only difference in the ring was it's lack of power. Which wouldn't be for long...a simmer of blue light surrounded Evelyn and in a flash it and she were gone.
