Kero had taken a short nap, for 30 years, when Sakura accidentally released the Clow Cards. Kero was happy to be released from the seal until he noticed that all the Clow cards were gone. He was only slightly relieved when Sakura showed him she still had the Windy Card. He felt this was a sign that the Clow Book had chosen Sakura to open the book. So he gave Sakura the sealing wand and told her she was now a Card Captor and that it was her duty to capture all the Clow Cards. Kero doesn't like Li much especially since he always calls him a stuffed animal.
Kero looks like a stuffed animal, and is often called that Li. Without all the cards he doesn't have enough to return to his true form. He needs the four element Cards in order to return to his true form, which is large lion without a mane, with angel-like wings and armor.
Kero can be surprisingly immature at times, spending most of his day eating snacks or sweets and playing video games.
