We see through flashback that he once was a quiet, gentle caring boy but no more he is now a cold, calculating monster who sees everyone else as insects. Ken is now an only child but we learn that he once had an older brother Sam. Sam was two years older than Ken and a genius and because of that Ken was often ignored. Ken had always lived in the shadow of his genius older brother and hated him for it. Then one day he wished that his brother "would just disappear" and then he did. Sam was soon hit and killed by a car. The shock of losing Sam when he had just wished for his brother "to disappear" left Ken so depressed that him soon become the Digimon Emperor and his hair was a lot like his brothers. His parents devastated over losing their genius son, were thrilled when Ken soon started showing signs of being a genius, he started doing better in school and soccer . </div> <div> Ken lives with his parents in an apartment in Tamachi. His father works for a computer firm and his mother helps out part-time at a friend's cafe. Both his parents are very ordinary, not what you would expect as the parents of a genius. </div> <div> As The Digimon Emperor, Ken's wish to take over the Digital World. He cares nothing for the Digimon, not even his own partner Wormmon. The loyal Wormmon follows Ken's orders, not sure of what else he can do other than do as he's told and staying out of his way. Tired of the real world he runs away to live in the digital world where he can rule supreme. </div> <div> One day his madness finally drives him to create Kimeramon, the Digi-Destined decide to finally take a final stand against him. Wormmon, realizing that there's no way to help Ken other than to help the Digi-destined defeat Kimeramon, he helps lead Davis and Veemon to the Digi-Egg of Miracles and when all seemed lost he tells Ken "Only a true friend would do this" and knocks The Digimon Emperor to the ground and giving the last of his strength to Magnamon, allowing him to destroy Kimeramon. With the destruction of Kimeramon Ken vows to "reset the digital world." It was then that the Digi-destined finally convinced him that the digital world was not a game but a real live place. With this realization finally realized he returns to normal no longer The Digimon Emperor. Davis finds the crest of kindness and after finding Wormmon the crest goes to Ken and Wormmon is happy Ken's back to his old self. Wormmon then dies in his arms, Ken can't understand why everyone he gets close to dies, first his brother and now Wormmon.
