This year's retreat was at times funny and crazy, and also emotional and uplifting.</div> <bR> <div> Members of the SPIRIT Youth Council planned the weekend, which was set against the serene backdrop of the 200 wooded acres of <A HREF="http://www.ymcabham.org/findus/hargis/index.htm" TARGET="_top" TITLE="http://www.ymcabham.org/findus/hargis/in"><U>Hargis</U></A> and began with <A HREF="mailto:pants9@bellsouth.net" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:pants9@bellsouth.net"><U>John Sokira</U></A> leading a modern-day journey on The Way of the Cross, during which the group reflected on how they live the Stations during their everyday lives.</div> <bR> <div> Members of the Youth Council used a variety of methods to get their messages across.  Through prayer reflection, skits, and music, the two- or three-person teams presented talks and led discussions following their presentations.</div> <bR> <div> Saturday evening was a special time for seniors <A HREF="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com"><U>Joey "Larry" Palmer</U></A> and <A HREF="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com"><U>John Phillip Troha</U></A>, both of whom have been very active in SPIRIT since 7<FONT SIZE="1" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >th</FONT> Grade.  <A HREF="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com"><U>Joey</U></A> and <A HREF="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com"><U>John Phillip</U></A> showed a movie entitled “The Road to Salvation” that featured nearly everyone attending the retreat.</div> <bR> <div> The video was written and directed by <A HREF="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com"><U>John Phillip</U></A>, and was edited by both seniors.  Nearly three hours of footage were reduced to the 40-minute film, which was complete with special effects and an awesome soundtrack!</div> <bR> <div> The highlight of Saturday night was a slide show that featured pictures from NCYC 1999 in St. Louis and SPIRIT Service Mission 2000.  The closing songs in the slide show offered a tribute to <FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > </FONT><A HREF="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com"><U>Joey</U></A> and <A HREF="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com"><U>John Phillip</U></A>, and featured pictures of the two seniors from childhood to their senior year.  Following the slide show, an emotional sharing session occurred during which <FONT SIZE="3" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > </FONT><A HREF="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:larrysue15@aol.com"><U>Joey</U></A> and <A HREF="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com" TARGET="_top" TITLE="mailto:jpmanii@aol.com"><U>John Phillip</U></A> addressed the rest of the group, offering words of encouragement to the future leaders of SPIRIT, and younger members were given an opportunity to bid farewell greetings to the graduates.</div> <bR> <div> On Sunday, the group enjoyed free time activities of canoeing, horseback riding, and hiking, and the weekend was concluded with a very special youth Mass, celebrated by Father Noel Danielewicz from St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Bessemer.</div> </td> </tr></table></body>
