TIPS FOR PLAYING REI
Rei is a very unusual girl. She is traditionally Japanese, yet still untraditionally Japanese at the same time. She is a miko (priestess in training, I believe) at Hikawa-jinja (Cherry Hill Temple), her grandfather's Shinto Temple and is sensitive to spirits and danger, in a psychic sort of way. But yet, she has aspirations of being a singer/songwriter and a model, and goes to a catholic school all five seasons of Sailormoon and has a very un-Japanese attitude: she is spirited, strong willed, passionate, and independent. Rei has a problem, though, of showing her true feelings towards someone and is a bit impatient (aren't all Aries...). She also wants every one of her friends to succeed.DO NOT
PHRASES
- Confuse the manga Rei with the anime Rei. The Rei in the manga is a little witchier and a man hater (and there's also an implied relationship between her and Minako...or, I think there is). The Rei in the anime is your normal teenage girl, except that she lives in a Shinto shrine.
- Make Usagi and Rei hate each other. They fight like sisters and seem to not like each other. However, Rei's wanting of everyone to succeed makes her impatient with Usagi's struggles, and that's the only reason they fight so often.
- Have her stay at the temple all the time doing temple stuff. A guy in a RPG that I was in (it closed) did that for Rei, and it about drove me NUTS! She does want to be a priestess, but she also does have some teenager in her and a life.
The only reason I put all those words is because, according to The Everchanging Sailormoon Gateway, where I got the speech from, the word that Mars' uses is actually a fighting word in Japanese
- "I am the senshi of the flame, Sailormars! In the name of Mars, I will exterminate/vanquish/destroy/PUNISH you!"
This was in the manga, and I almost rolled on the floor laughing. It's kind of like she's saying, "How DARE you make me wear these high heels! Do you know how hard it is to balance in these things? Just for that, I'll destroy you!"
- "I am Sailormars, and I will punish you in high heels!"
ATTACKS AND SUCH (English equivalent in parenthesis)
Sailormoon and early Sailormoon RLate Sailormoon R and Sailormoon S
- Mars Power, Make-Up! (Mars Power): Rei says this to turn into Sailormars.
- Fire Soul (Mars Fire Ignite): Sailormars makes a gun-like formation with the thumb and index fingers of both hands. She then points her "gun" at the enemy, and a ball of fire comes out of it and shoots at the enemy.
- Fire Soul Bird (I believe it's the same in English): Sailormars chants on an o-mamori (that piece of paper she chants on) then throws it in the air. She does the same thing as she would do for Fire Soul, but she fires it at the piece of paper. It creates a bird of fire that she can direct at an opponent.
Sailormoon Supers and Sailormoon Stars
- Mars Star Power, Make-Up! (Mars Star Power): Rei says this to turn into Sailormars.
- Burning Mandala (Mars Celestial Fire Surround): Sailormars says this, and several rings of fire form around her, which is called a mandala. When she has concentrated long enough, she can direct the rings at her enemies.
(side note: Yes, a mandala is part of Buddhism, and Rei is a Shinto priestess. However, in Japan, the people have accepted both religions as part of everyday life.)Other Equipment/Gadgets
- Mars Crystal Power, Make-Up!: Normal transformation/henshin phrase. Rei says this, and turns into Super Sailormars.
- Mars Flame Sniper: Super Sailormars says this, and a small red arrow/Mars symbol appears in her hand. It then forms a larger bow and arrow of fire, which she shoots at her opponents.

- Akuryou Fuji no Ofuda: Either Rei or Sailormars can use this, as it is more from her training as a Shinto priestess than an actual attack. She chants on an o-mamori (that piece of paper she holds in front of her), saying, "(Rin, pyou, tou, sha, kai, jin, retsu, sai, zen). Akuryou taisan! (or "I call upon the power of Mars!" or "Evil Spirit, BEGONE!")" She then throws it at anything that she thinks is evil. It removes evil from a person or stuns them.
