Hotaru is actually a kind, caring girl. She is a lonely, frail young girl, who lives with her father in a lab in/near Mugen. She has very few friends, due to her shyness and her power to heal people. She befriends Chibiusa, who becomes her best friend as she becomes Chibiusa's best friend.
However, Hotaru has a special secret. Unknown to her, she is also Mistress 9. As Mistress 9, her goal is to collect enough heart energy to bring Master Pharaoh 90 and the Silence (it's kind of like a nuclear winter) When she was Mistress 9, she was an unsympathetic girl/woman, who only cared about her goal. Actually, Sailorsaturn is like that, too, so...DO NOT
PHRASES
- Make her totally heartless. While she is under the control of Mistress 9, she is a heartless witch, caring about nothing than bringing the Silence. However, Hotaru is best friends with Chibiusa and cares deeply about her and the other senshi.
- Confuse Mistress 9 with Hotaru. Even in SailormoonS, when she is mostly Mistress 9, when Mistress 9 acted, it was not Hotaru acting, and vice versa.
- Confuse Hotaru with Sailorsaturn. Again, as Sailorsaturn, Hotaru acts totally different. While Hotaru, she is happy and caring. As Sailorsaturn, she is calm and thinks only of her duty.
- "Protected by the silent planet, Saturn, I am the senshi of creation and destruction, Sailorsaturn!"
Even though I have yet to see her in either the manga or the anime, I can see her saying this calmly, peacefully, and unsympathetically, like a judge about to deliver a sentence to a man condemned to death.ATTACKS AND POWERS
SailormoonS
Sailormoon SuperS (the manga version)
- She has no attacks and such. All that is shown is her turning into Sailorsaturn, and her going into Master Pharaoh 90 and attacking it.
- Saturn Crystal Power, Make-up!: Hotaru says this, in the manga, to turn into Super Sailorsaturn. If I had ever seen a transformation sequence involving her, I'd describe it. However, all I've see is the sign of Saturn glowing in purple, then her showing up.
- Silence Wall: Super Sailorsaturn says this and raised her Silence Glaive above her head. An invisible wall forms which she uses to protect herself and others from attacks.
- Silence Glaive Surprise Attack: She raised the Silence Glaive up to the sky. It glows purple, and then she slams it to the ground. Then there is a HUGE explosion.
Sailormoon Stars
- Saturn Crystal Power, Make-up!: She is never shown in the anime with a full transformation sequence. All I've see is the sign of Saturn glowing in purple, then her showing up. However, she DOES have to transform, and this would be her transformation phrase, I think.
- Death Reborn Revolution (or, Death Ribbon Revolution): In the manga, supposedly, this attack will destroy the world, so it's sort of important. Sailorsaturn says this, and holds out her Silence Glaive. It charges with purple energy and then sends out purple ribbons to slash and tear at her opponents. I don't know when she uses this attack, specifically, because I've only seen it on BSSM:Another Story.
Note: the attack plays on a pun. Reborn and Ribbon are pronounced almost the same in Japanese, so that's why there's the evil ribbons.Other Equipment/Gadgets/Attacks

- Silence Glaive: It's that long stick with the huge G looking thing on the end that she holds (it's called a pole arm). She needs it for all her attacks and it has many uses..mostly slicing whatever is in her way. Here is a picture of it, if you have yet to see it.
- Hotaru's Power: When something tries to attack a vulnerable Hotaru, a purple aura surrounds her and her eyes glow/light up. She then uses this power to blast away enemies.
