The menace of vampirism itself is closely linked to the destructive power of human sexuality. The act of vampirism is in itself ambiguous. Although we know that the life blood is being sucked from the victim's throat, the deadly method of blood-letting has all the outward signs of a passionate embrace. The post-vampirization behavior of the female victims of Dracula's blood lust compounds this ambiguity. They are frequently shown awaiting Dracula's bite reclining languidly in bed, as if expecting a lover.
