The Tiger's and Panther's were the main tanks used throughout the war.Their biggest battle was in Russia.
The battle of Kursk was the largest clash of armour during the II WW . 3,600 Russian, 2,700 German tanks were involved.
The action went under the name of 'Operation Citadal',and took place on the 4th July 1943.
It was a massive gamble on the German side. The engagement started on 12th July at Prokhorovka.
The German Army was led by: Field Marshal Gunter von Kluge, Col.Gen. Walter Model, Gen. Heinz Zorn's Panzer Korps, and Lt. Gen. Joakim Lemelsen's XLVII Panzer Korps.
The Russian Army was led by: Gen. Konstantin Rokossovsky, Gen. Nikolai Vatutin, Lt. Gen. Nikolai Pukhov,and Gen. Mikhail Katukov's First Tank Army.
The gamble which the German's lost and never fully recovered from.
100,000 Germans were killed or injured.
250,000 Russians were killed and 600,000 were injured.

The Russian T34 series of tanks were being made even in the 30's. Models varied by armament, engines,and weaponry.However, the basic lines of the T34 series remained and was used in all of Russia's fields of combat.
Later other types such as the IS-2 Model tank was brought in towards the end of 1945,however, the T34 remained long after the war as Russia's main attack tank.
