The battle of Kursk was the largest clash of armour during the II WW . 3,600 Russian, 2,700 German tanks were involved. The action went under the name of 'Operation Citadal',and took place on the 4th July 1943. It was a massive gamble on the German side. The engagement started on 12th July at Prokhorovka. Konstantin Rokossovsky, Gen. Nikolai Vatutin, Lt. Gen. Nikolai Pukhov,and Gen. Mikhail Katukov's First Tank Army. The gamble which the German's lost and never fully recovered from. 100,000 Germans were killed or injured. 250,000 Russians were killed and 600,000 were injured.
