INTRO 23
January 2003
The first time I saw the "Never Gonna Give You Up" video on television, I
knew the song was destined to be one of the best pop songs of all time.
Released in July 1987, it's still as infectious today as it was back then.
Written and produced by the magnificent production team of Mike Stock, Matt
Aitken, and Pete Waterman, more famously known by their acronym: S/A/W and
sung by Britain's finest export, Rick Astley captured my imagination with
his strong baritone vocals. I'm still a fan of him after all these years.
Recently, for the new year, one of my resolutions was to develop a complete
music and information discography for this great singer. I've decided to
build a site to accomplish this objective. This site will be developed on a
small scale and a percentage of the information will be published as time
goes on. Don't worry folks; we have all the time in the world...
For the moment, I'll populate the site with information and statistics
because you can't have subjectivity without objectivity. Personal comments
coming soon as well. And there are some Easter eggs to be found whenever you
see this symbol + on the site.

COMPILATIONS and
COLLABORATIONS

releasing in the UK on 29/09/2003 a brand compilation CD for Rick Astley
containing hits and album ballads. The collection entitled: "The Best of
Rick Astley... Never Gonna Give You Up" is competitively priced for the
Christmas season.
In August this year, an album was released by Max which
contained 2 tracks featuring lead vocals by Rick Astley. More info in the
collabs site.

Interesting fact I've obtained from the
PWLFORUM site and confirmed via the
USIMDB site is that the director for Rick Astley's first ever music
video "Never Gonna Give You Up" from 1987 is none other than SIMON WEST.
Who's Simon West? He's the UK born director of Hollywood blockbuster movies
such as Con Air (1997), The General's Daughter (1999) and Lara Croft: Tomb
Raider (2001).

LAST week Malaysia had the finals of its own
edition of 'Fame Academy'. It's known as 'Akademi Fantasia' over here and
the popularity of the program for the past 2 months was phenomenal to say
the least. The winner on the night of 09/08/2003 was Vince from Kuala Lumpur
who sang 2 songs. The first was a cover of a popular ballad and the other
was a new composition created especially for Vince. I've jotted down the
lyrics of the new song "Tak Ingin Kehilangan Mu".

YIKES!!! I've been away for such a long time...
Well, what has happened in the Rick Astley domain the past few months.
"Shakespeare's (Way With) Words" peaked at #10 in the UK singles chart in
June 2003. There was also some news of Rick Astley collaborating with
American Idol 2 runner-up - Clay Aiken. These 2 have more than their cherub
looks in common. Read the news article from Billboard below. I've recently
managed to compile some sales figures for Rick's UK singles and also the
complete chart run for albums and singles released in the UK and US -
courtesy of 'chartfacts' and
'hanboo'. I hope to post them
all by the end of this month.

Guess who has co-written the song? None other than the red headed kid from
Newton-le-Willows...
Rick co-wrote the song with Kevin Hughes. He had also previously co-written
at least 2 unreleased tracks with Kevin: "Baby Baby Baby" and "I Couldn't
Lie To You". Check out the unreleased repertoire from Rick.

UNITS SOLD) and SILVER (60,000 UNITS SOLD) status by
BPI on
11/04/2003. The album was released on 02/09/2002 in the UK.

A tragedy to welcome the Chinese New Year. I've
always been fascinated by the space shuttle program. When I was in primary
school, I would always cut and paste the newspaper articles on all the space
missions flown by Columbia, Challenger, Atlantis, Discovery and even up to
Endeavor in my little scrapbook. Now, with only 3 shuttles left, I guess
NASA would have to rethink the manned space program policy. Millions die
everyday. Some die trying to make a living and to those 7 astronauts who
gave their lives, may god bless your souls.
