Starships Technical Information
Klingon Starships
A starship vessel of Klingon design. There are two variants of
this craft, the D-7 and the D-7A.
The D-7 possesses forward and aft firing photon torpedoes and
forward firing disruptors.
The D-7A possesses forward and aft firing photon torpedoes,
forward firing disruptors and a cloaking device. Due to the
severe power demands of the cloaking device, the D-7A must become
visible in order to fire. The heavy cruiser is the mainstay of
the Klingon fleet.
Romulan Starships
The Bird Of Pray is a vessel of shared Romulan and Klingon design. The klingon craft possesses cloaking technology, photon torpedoes and disruptors. Based on an older design, the Romulan Bird Of Pray only possesses cloaking technology and plasma torpedoes. Due to the severe power demands of the cloak, both types of vessels must become visible in order to fire.
Federation Starships
Excelsior Class
A heavily armed and shielded starship, the Excelsior class is the largest starship currently in operation within Starfleet. The first of the series, the USS Excelsior was fitted with a transwarp drive in 2285, but because of technical difficulties, the Excelsior class is currently fitted with standard warp drive.
Miranda Class
A Starfleet vessel used primarily for scientific missions. The Miranda, unlike the smaller Oberth Class, is quipped with both phasers and photon torpedoes.
Oberth Class
The Oberth is a small Starfleet ship used primarily for science missions. The design is oriented toward scientific observation, at the expense of both range and fire power.

When the Enterprise visited the planet in 2267, the civilization was controlled by a computer called Vaal, who was using the native's worship of it to provide itself with fuel. In order to maintain this situation, Vaal tried to destroy the Enterprise, but the Enterprise destroyed Vaal in self-defense. Because of the disruption to the society that the destruction of Vaal caused, the society has lapsed into a civil war that is still being fought among those who believe that Vaal was a true god and those who follow the ways of the Federation. This case is frequently an example cited by both sides of the ongoing debate about the utility of the Prime Directive. |

The only working prototype of the Genesis Project was
destroyed when Khan detonated it aboard the Reliant.
However, this did lead to creation of the Genesis Planet. However Doctor Marcus used proto-matter, a substance illigak in the Federation to try and catalyze the bio-force matrices. Because of this, the Genesis planet went through a forced evolution, aged rapidly, and died due to internal stresses. |

| Two regions of space bordering Federation territory
that are considered to be held by neither side of the
disputing governments. One such zones lies between the
Federation and the Klingon Empire. The second region
separates the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire. By treaty, no ship is allowed to enter the Romulan Neutral Zone. However, under the Organian Peace Treaty, the Federation and the Klingon Empire may compete to develop planets within the Klingon Neutral Zones. |

Nomad |
| Nomad was an old Federation probe in 2002 to explore
new life forms outside our solar system. It was presumed
destroyed when it collided with an alien probe, clled Tan
Ru. However, in the aftermath, Nomad repaired itself, merging parts of the alien probe with itself. The result was a probe that would wipe out any being inferior to itself, which was interpreted by Nomad to mean the destruction of all living organisms. It self-destructed when it realized that it too was imperfect. |

Obelisk |
A powerful deflector device installed on an unnamed planet inhabited by American Indians. The device was installed there by a mysterious race called the Preservers to protect the inhabitants from asteroids. The method of activating the Obelisk was passed down from generation to generation but the oral tradition that surrounded it was lost. By 2268, no one on the planet knew how to activate the deflector, until, with the help of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise, the Obelisk was re-activated and the planet avoided destruction. |

Organian Peace Treaty |
The Organian Peace Treaty of 2267 was created when the Organian homeworld was forced into the middle of a conflict between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Originally created by the Organians, the treaty established a Neutral Zone between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, which was to be enforce by the Organians ability to paralyze weaponry. The treaty also stated that both Klingon and Federation starbases within the Zone would provide aid and recreational facilities for either side if requested. Any contested world inside the Treaty Zone would be given to the side who could prove that they could best develop the planet. |

Planet Killer |
An immense, fully automated weapon that was discovered in 2267. The Planet Killer would break up planets with an anti-proton beam and use the material as fuel. Its hull was also made of pure neutronium, making it completely imprevious to standard Federation phasers and photon torpedoes. The machine was finally rendered harmless when Captain James T. Kirk programmed the USS Constellation to self-destruct inside its maw. The remnants of the Planet Killer are currently in the possession of the Dnari A-6 Science Institute on Sygnet-Alpha IV. There is a school of thought that subscribes to the theory that the galactic barrier was originally erected by a now-gone race to protect the Milky Way galaxy from these Planet Killers. If that is true, then it is obviously not 100% effective. |

Romulans |
| Warrior race descended from Vulcans during a brutal
colonization period that took place before the Vulcans
developed the stringent codes of conduct by Surak. The
Romulans, however, did not reject passion and aggression
and underwent a period of rapid expansion that formed the
Romulan Star Empire. Their expansion toward Federation
worlds was stopped in a comprehensive conflict in 2156
between Earth and the Romulan Star Empire. The war was only stopped because both sides realized a continuance of the conflict would cripple their respective cultures. Since that time, the Romulans have constantly tested the Federation. The most notable test occurred in 2266, when a prototype Bird of Prey with cloaking technology was sent to penetrate Federation defenses as a prelude to an invasion. The destruction of that ship by James T. Kirk averted the impending war by proving the Federation was strong enough to stand up to a Romulan offensive. Romulans currently use ships of Klingon design. |

Talosians |
Inhabitants of Talos IV. When a nuclear war devastated the planet centuries ago, the Talosians moved underground, depending on illusion-creating technology of their ancestors. According to records from the court martial of Commander Spock in 2267, the Talosians are a dying race, driven to decadence by reliance upon the illusion technology that sustains them. Their only known attempt to halt this regression began when the SS Columbia crash landed on Talos IV in 2236. The only survivor of the crash was a woman named Vina, whom they nursed back to health. When the USS Enterprise arrived in 2263, the Talosians tried to mate Vina with Captain Christopher Pike, to introduce a stronger genetic strain to the planet. Their attempt failed when Captain Pike convinced them that humans could not be caged. The Talosians realized their error and let Pike go, welcoming him back as an ambassador when he was returned to Talos IV by Spock 2267. |
