Starships Technical Information
Klingon Starships
A starship vessel of Klingon design. There are two variants of
this craft, the D-7 and the D-7A.
The D-7 possesses forward and aft firing photon torpedoes and
forward firing disruptors.
The D-7A possesses forward and aft firing photon torpedoes,
forward firing disruptors and a cloaking device. Due to the
severe power demands of the cloaking device, the D-7A must become
visible in order to fire. The heavy cruiser is the mainstay of
the Klingon fleet.
Romulan Starships
The Bird Of Pray is a vessel of shared Romulan and Klingon design. The klingon craft possesses cloaking technology, photon torpedoes and disruptors. Based on an older design, the Romulan Bird Of Pray only possesses cloaking technology and plasma torpedoes. Due to the severe power demands of the cloak, both types of vessels must become visible in order to fire.
Federation Starships
Excelsior Class
A heavily armed and shielded starship, the Excelsior class is the largest starship currently in operation within Starfleet. The first of the series, the USS Excelsior was fitted with a transwarp drive in 2285, but because of technical difficulties, the Excelsior class is currently fitted with standard warp drive.
Miranda Class
A Starfleet vessel used primarily for scientific missions. The Miranda, unlike the smaller Oberth Class, is quipped with both phasers and photon torpedoes.
Oberth Class
The Oberth is a small Starfleet ship used primarily for science missions. The design is oriented toward scientific observation, at the expense of both range and fire power.

| A probe form an unknown alien race that came to the Sol system in 2286 in order to contact the Humpback whale, a species which had been extinct since the 21st century. When the whales failed to respond to the alien probe, the probe intensified its call, until it started to seriously disrupt the ecology of Earth. Disaster was averted when James T. Kirk traveled back in time to the 20th century and brought back two Humpback whales. Apparently satisfied the probe then continued on. |

Anti-matter |
| Matter whose electrical charge properties are the opposite of matter. For example: in the nucleus of an atom of matter, protons have a positive charge, where in the nucleus of an atom of anti-matter, antiprotons have a negative charge. When a particle of anti-matter comes in contact with matter, a matter/anti-matter reaction results, causing thr annihilation of both particles and the release of the total energy stored in both particles. A controlled matter/anti-matter reaction is the power source of a warp drive. |

Argus X |
| Class M world in the Argus system, known for minerals of extreme strength and durability. Mines on Argus X are presently being built to extract ore for the hulls of the next generation of starships. At one time the planet was home to a dikironium cloud, which destroyed most of the original landing party that encountered it. |

ARK-7 was a sophisticated archeology project examining the origins of life in the universe. The project was led by Dr. Carol Marcus who, along with a crew of seventeen members, was dedicated to unlocking the mystery of life with the Genesis Project. The project was canceled in 2265 and further information on the project is classified. |

Atavachron |
| A time portal designed by the people of Sapeidon. Thr Atavarchron changed the traveler's molecular structure so that the inhabitant could live in an earlier time. The only way for the person to get back into the present was to change their molecular structure one more. The device was destroyed when the sun of the system went nova. |

A secondary command room allowing control of basic functions of a starship in the event of damage to the ship's primary bridge. |

Deadly radiation that causes carbon-based tissue, including human tissue, to disintegrate over time. A fully shielded Federation ship should have no trouble from this phenomena. |

Beta III |
M-Class planet located in system C-111. Until 2267, the inhabitants of this planet were under an enforced mind-controlled peace imposed on them by an omni-present computer known as Landru. This computer was destroyed by Captain James T. Kirk when it attempted to disable the Enterprise and absorb the crew into its stagnant culture. |

| The primary command center for starships, the bridge is the principal duty station where the starship's senior officers are stationed. Nearly every function of the ship can be controlled from the bridge. |

Cloaking Device |
| An energy screen that renders the cloaked object invisible to the naked eye and conventional scanning methods. Cloaking technology is currently used by both Klingon and Romulan Birds of Prey. Federation research into this field achieved great strides following a covert mission know as the "Enterprise Incident" which allowed Starfleet access to a Romulan cloaking device. Current agreements with the Klingon and Romulan Empires forbid the Federation use of Cloaking Devices. |

| On a Federation starship, the communications station is the bridge duty station for the ship's Communication Officer. The attending Communications Officer can monitor internal and external communications as well as engage the Universal Translator when needed. |

Converter Assembly |
| The assembly that houses the dilithium crystals used by a starship to control warp drive and weapons-system. |

Darvi Zora |
| Captain of the USS Rutherford. Born in Honok
province, Tholia, in 2245. Zora graduated Starfleet
Academy in 2267, thirteenth in class. She has served aboard the USS Culloden, the USS Tiger, USS Benedict and was assigned to the USS Rutherford in 2287. Decorated three times by Starfleet. |

Energy shield used to protect starships and other vessels from natural hazards, such as meteors or other space debris, and enemy weapons fire. |

Deltans |
| Deltans are a humanoid race of beings from the planet Delta IV. Deltans have a characteristically bald head, and are known for their highly developed sexuality. Each Deltan, when entering Starfleet, must take on Oath of Celibacy, so that they will not confuse that they consider sexually inferior species. |

Denebite |
| Mineral found on Alpha Denebe II; its is a necessary component in Deltan subspace relays but can, in large quantities, interfere with low level sensors scans. Requires speciak permisson to transport, Federation hazard protocols, 2266, ordinance 23A58. |

Derek Brentwood |
Captain USS Alexandria. Brentwood was born on the colony of Gerard III in 2241. He graduated Starfleet Academy Stardate 2265, fifth in his class. He also served aboard the USS Maine, the USS Kelsey, and USS B'intok. Promoted to Captain and assigned to USS Alexandria in 2281. He has received five Starfleet commendations for exceptional service. |

Dikironium Cloud Creature |
| A cloud-shaped entity that feeds off of hemoglobin
and once wandered throughout the galaxy. Is was first
encountered near Tycho IV, where it killed 200 crewmen
aboard the USS Farragut. It was later encountered on
Argus X by the crew of the USS Enterprise. The creature was then tracked down to Tycho IV and killed with an anti-matter charge. |

Dilithium Crystals |
| These naturally forming crystals, found on Coridan, Troysius and Avaton II, among other worlds, are used to regulate energy in the matter-antimatter reactors. Because the crystals can deteriorate rapidly under adverse conditions, a ready supply is part of the vital stores on a starship. |

Disruptors |
| A directed energy weapon roughly equivalent in destructive force to Federation phasers, but with distinctive energy patterns. Klingons and Romulan, among other races, have both portable and ship-mounted versions. |

Divan System |
The Divan system consist of a Class K main sequence star and seven known planets. The third planet, known as Albegad, has been a Deltan colony for 35 standard terrestrial years. There is also a Deltan mining colony on the fifth moon of Divan IV, a large gas giant whose orbit skirts the extreme edge of the biosphere of the system. There are vey few known navigation hazards in this system. Unlike most systems, there are no major asteroid belts. There are no shipyard facilities in this system. |

The re-fusing of a Vulcan's "spirit" with his living body. The ancient ceremony of fal-tor-pan was not used for centuries on Vulcan, until Captain Spock's katra was united with his newly regenerated body that was found on the Genesis Planet. |

| Known as the Federation, the United Federation of Planets is an alliance of 150 planetary governments and colonies devoted to exploratory, scientific, cultural, diplomatic, economic, and defensive endeavors. Founded in 2151, The Federation is governed by the Federation Council, who meet regularly in the city of San Francisco on Earth. The founding sponsors of the UFP are Earth and Vulcan. |

Fraconi |
| A stellar system consisting of one central Blue White Class B giant star, and two main-sequence Type G stars that orbit it and each other. Astrophysicist speculate that the Type G suns may have been wanderers caught by the overwhelming gravity of Fraconi. The subsidiary suns are known as Fraconi Delta and Fraconi Gamma. Ships exploring and observing this system aew waned to be very careful of the fierce stellar activity evidenced by the three stars. The interstellar phenomenon known as the Gap may be the result of these sane gravitational stresses. |

Galactic Barrier |
| An energy field of unknown origin at the perimeter of
the Milky Way galaxy. The barrier has been described in
texts of the Inoni and Venturi civilizations, both of
wich are said to have crossed it frequently. Earth forces
first encountered the barrier in 2064, when it was
crossed by the SS Valient. After that, it was crossed by
the USS Enterprise in 2265. On both occasions certain
crew members became endowed with psionic abilities that
caused them to become threats to their crew. The barrier is currently being studied by a Starfleet research team headed by the Vulcan plasma field physicist Chovok. Starfleet directives forbid ships to cross the barrier without authorization. |

Gamma 7A System |
| A solar system with a fourth magnitude star that was destroyed by the space amoeba in 2268. Billions of people were killed in the incident, including the crew of the USS Interpid. |

Gamma Trianguli VI |
An almost idyllic, M-class planet in the Gamma Trianguli system. When the Enterprise visited the planet in 2267, the civilization was controlled by a computer called Vaal, who was using the native's worship of it to provide itself with fuel. In order to maintain this situation, Vaal tried to destroy the Enterprise, but the Enterprise destroyed Vaal in self-defense. Because of the disruption to the society that the destruction of Vaal caused, the society has lapsed into a civil war that is still being fought among those who believe that Vaal was a true god and those who follow the ways of the Federation. This case is frequently an example cited by both sides of the ongoing debate about the utility of the Prime Directive. |

Gap |
| A minor rift in the galactic arm, the Gap is simply a phenomena caused by the lack of stars in a radius of several hundred parsecs. The presence of the Super Giant star Fraconi on the edge of the Gap has led certain Federation scientists to hypothesize that gravitational stresses may have had a part in forming this phenomenon, but there is currently insufficient information to verify this hypothesis. |

Genesis Project |
| The Genesis Project was a classifed experiment,
intended to terra-form a desolate, unlivable planet
within hours. Dr. Carol Marcus was the leading researcher
on the project until the Genessis Project was stolen from
her by Khan Noonien Singh aboard the stolen USS Reliant.
The only working prototype of the Genesis Project was
destroyed when Khan detonated it aboard the Reliant.
However, this did lead to creation of the Genesis Planet. However Doctor Marcus used proto-matter, a substance illigak in the Federation to try and catalyze the bio-force matrices. Because of this, the Genesis planet went through a forced evolution, aged rapidly, and died due to internal stresses. |

Gorn |
| A race of reptilian humanoids occupy several star
systems in the Metron sector. Initial contact was hostile until stardate 3045.6, when intercession by the Metron created a diplomatic initiative between a Gorn ship captain and Captain James T. Kirk. Since that contact, relations have been tense but peaceful. |

Green Alert |
| The lowest state of readiness, indicative of no danger. |

Hand Phasers |
| A portable pistol type weapon that can be adjusted to a variety of settings, including stun, heat and disruption. There have been two types of hand phasers, type I and type II, which vary in power. |

Helm |
| On a Federation starship, the helm is the duty station on the bridge of the ship's pilot or "helmsmen". The helm regulates the ship's condition, weapon control, alert status and the state of defensive shields. |

Hikaru Sulu |
| Starfleet rank: Captain. Sulu is regarded as one of
the most capable officers in Starfleet. Hikaru Sulu graduated near the top of his class at the Academy and is considered an excellent military tactician. After many years of distinguished service, primarily with the USS Enterprise, he was made Chief of Command School, Starfleet Academy, a position he holds as of this entry. |

Hull |
On a Federation starship, the hull is the outer surface and structural support of the vessel. Physical damage to a ship's hull must receive the highest damage control priority. Once a serious hull breach occurs, destruction is imminent. |

Humpback Whales |
| Large, sea-faring mammals, scientifically called
Megaptera Novaeabgliae, that live in the oceans of earth.
They became extinct in the 21st century. Two of the
whales, however, were retrieved when Captain James T.
Kirk went back in time to retrieve them in order to stop
and alien probe from destroying the Earth. Currently the whales have been left to wander the ocean, under strict observation. |

| Standard Starfleet issue medical instrument for subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. |

IDCI |
| Acronym for "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations". The IDIC emblem is the most revered Vulcan symbol, combining variations in texture, shape and color. The different materials and shapes represent the diverse things which come together to create thruth and beauty - the glory of creation in its infinite diversity and meanings. |

Impulse Drive |
| Spacecraft propulsion system for inter-system trave at slower-than-light speeds. It employs fusion reactors for thrust. Full impulse speed is roughly half the speed of light |

Invictus |
The prototype for Romulan Bird of Prey, the Invictus breached the Neutral Zone in 2266, and engaged in conflict with the Federation's flagship, the USS Enterprise, after the Invictus destroyed several heavily guarded Federation Starbases. This situation nearly resulted in a second war between the Federation and the Romulan before the Invictus was stopped by the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. |

| Interstellar phenomenon characterized by powerful ion emissions. Ion storms can cover many cubic light years and are powerful enough to disrupt the systems of any Federation starship. |

Jacob McNeil |
| Commander Jacob McNeil, the former captain of the USS Trojan, engineered a number of illegal seizures of Federation and Klingon ships after experiencing a nervous breakdown. In the process, he killed a total of 300 men and women. Following his capture five years ago, he was sent to the Ceti-Prime Rehabilitation Colony on Egeus II. |

James Tiberius Kirk |
| Starfleet rank: Captain, current assignment: command of the USS Enterprise, NCC 1701-A. During the Enterprise's historic five-year mission, Captain Kirk was decorated many times for valor. He was promoted to Admiral in 2270, but was demoted to captain after refusing to obay a direct command by the Federation Council. He is still considered on of Starfleet's best officers and a superb military commander |

Janice Rand |
Commander Janice Rand served aboard the USS Enterprise as a yeoman during the first year of its initial five-year mission, then left for accelerated schooling in Starfleet Technical School in 2268. She served aboard the Enterprise again as transporter chief in 2271. After successuflly completing courses in Communications and Command, she was assigned to Starfleet Command in San Francisco as Communications Officer. |

| Klingon bilateral sclerosis, a neurological disorder
known to affect elderly Klingons. Jkhorgot impairs memory functions and causes violent seizures, and eventually leads to death within 36-50 months of onset. |

Kelvan Empire |
| The Kelvans are an alien society from deep within the
Andromeda Galaxy. Their true form is known to be hundreds
of meters wide with a large amount of tentacles, though
they can assume other physical forms as necessary. They do not experience emotions as most citizens of the Federation understand them. When they realized that their galaxy would become unlivable in 10 millennium, they decided to invade the Milky Way galaxy. In 2268, when they encountered the USS Enterprise, Captain James T. Kirk persuaded them to peacefully settle on a planet near the edge of the galaxy, instead of invading. |

Khan Noonien Singh |
| Khan Noonien Singh was the leader of a set of
genetically engineered dictators from the Eugenics Wars
in the 1990s. When his rule over one-fourth of the Earth
was overthrown, he escaped along with several dozen of
his fellow "supermen" in suspended animation
aboard the sleeper ship, the SS Botany Bay. In 2267, the USS Enterprise encountered the Botany Bay and released Khan and his followers from their sleep. True to his genetic programming, Khan then tried to take over the Enterprise, but was marooned on Ceti Alpha V, Khan managed to escape the planet aboard the USS Reliant, eventually stealing the Genesis Project in an attempt to come to power once again and gain revenge on Captain Kirk. He was finally defeated by the Enterprise, and killed when he detonated the Genesis Project while aboard the Reliant, thus creating the Genesis Planet. |

A substance produced by the food of the planet Platonius. It causes telekinetic powers in humanoid being. |

| A city on the Klingon homeworld of Qo'noS. Very little is known of the city, due to the animosity between the Klingon and the Federation. |

Klingons |
| A humanoid life-form whose home-world is Qo'noS. Klingon culture is based on the principle of survival of the fittest, either through guile or physical force. It is known that principles of honor permeate the culture, belief system and actions of the Klingon race, but Federation sociologists have been unable to determine the crucial details of the Klingon civilization that would enable Federation diplomats to better understand Klingon culture and how the Klingon perceive and relate to the universe. |

Koon-ut-kal-if-fee |
Vulcan term for "marriage" or "challenge"; it refers to both, which can be part of the same ancient ritual. In ancient times, Vulcans would use this ritual to fight for their mates. |

Laser |
| Acronym for Light Amplified by Simulated Emission of Radiation. Developments in laser technology later led to the invention of phasers and disruptors. |

Leonard McCoy |
| Starfleetrank: Chief surgeon. He served during the
historic five year exploratory missions of the USS
Enterprise, and retired soon after that. He was asked to
serve once again by then-Admiral James T. Kirk when the
ship intercepted the V'Ger entity near Earth. Dr. McCoy
has been commended for several revolutionary advances in
medical research and is credited with saving several
planetary populations from extinction through disease. When the computer was installed as the captain of the USS Enterprise in 2268, it conducted an elaborate war game against three other human controlled starships. However, a glitch in the system resulted in the M-5 considering the other ships to be a true threat. The M-5 then fired full phasers on the others ships, killing hundreds and destroying the USS Excaliber. The computer was disabled when Captain Kirk played upon Daystrom's sense of morality, and the computer deactivated itself in order to punish itself for the sin of murder. |

Kirk programmed the USS Constellation to self-destruct inside its maw. The remnants of the Planet Killer are currently in the possession of the Dnari A-6 Science Institute on Sygnet-Alpha IV. There is a school of thought that subscribes to the theory that the galactic barrier was originally erected by a now-gone race to protect the Milky Way galaxy from these Planet Killers. If that is true, then it is obviously not 100% effective. |

Their only known attempt to halt this regression began when the SS Columbia crash landed on Talos IV in 2236. The only survivor of the crash was a woman named Vina, whom they nursed back to health. When the USS Enterprise arrived in 2263, the Talosians tried to mate Vina with Captain Christopher Pike, to introduce a stronger genetic strain to the planet. Their attempt failed when Captain Pike convinced them that humans could not be caged. The Talosians realized their error and let Pike go, welcoming him back as an ambassador when he was returned to Talos IV by Spock 2267. |

None fo the planets are particularky appetizing to Federation members, but the second asteroid belt contains many mineral-rich fragments thought to have once been part of the core of a planet. Trebilard Industries maintains a station in the second asteroid belt do buy and process materials found by the population of meteor miners who reside there. |

X-Ray Pulsar |
A collapsed star that emits X-Rays in a tight band of electromagnetic radiation at a rate equal to its cyclical rotation. X-Ray pulsars are known to speed up and slow down as well as increase and decrease in intensity. The mechanism for the variances is not fully understood. Ongoing research projects are underway to isolate factors concerning the nature of the phenomena. |

| The second highest state of readiness, indicative of a probable emergency. Under conditions of Yellow Alert, off duty crewmen are expected to be able to get to their Red Alert duty stations in seconds. |
