Super Sabre---real name Martin Fletcher---was one of the three WWII heroes who joined Freedom Force some time after it was formed. Unlike his comrades, Sabre signed up of his own free will; he had been thought dead after an encounter with Storm (Uncanny X-Men 216) and showed up at FF headquarters after his buddies had been inducted, technically with no criminal record. He was a super-speedster, presumably a mutant, capable of running "the four-second mile" despite his old age. Sabre was fond of creating sonic booms to knock out opponents, though this was pretty much all he could do offensively. He was sort of the trio's weird wacky guy, very cheerful and friendly, though it's worth noting that he was never shown to be casually interacting with any member of FF other than his veteran buddies, which suggests he didn't particularly care for their company.
Sabre unfortunately met his untimely end during the team's mission to Kuwait, when he was beheaded in a rather surprising and gruesome scene (New Mutants annual 7), courtesy of the Iraqi agent Aminedi. He was one of three members of FF to die in the line of duty.
Recently, he appeared as a ghost in the afterlife alongside Pyro, Stonewall, and some others.
Issues which highlight his character: Uncanny X-Men 215, 216, 226.
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men 215
Final Appearance (alive): New Mutants annual 7
