Crimson Commando---real name Frank Bohannan---is one of the three WWII veterans who joined Freedom Force some time after its creation. He and Stonewall were placed on the team to serve out their sentences after being defeated by Storm in their vigilante activities and forced to turn themselves in. Commando was the leader of the three, and thus it was only natural that he became FF's second-in-command (replacing Pyro); he also took over leadership of the team after Mystique was thought to be dead. He was fairly arrogant and originally vied for leadership of the team while she was still alive, which caused some tension within the group, but Mystique could easily handle him. Commando was a mutant whose powers allowed him to stay near the peak of human physical perfection even at his relatively old age; this meant he was in excellent shape, had keen (though not superhuman) senses, and as such was a skilled tracker. He had also trained himself to have the ability to rid his mind of all conscious thought so that he could act undetected by telepaths if he so chose. Intelligent and somewhat philosophical, Commando was the quintessential veteran and an all-around fascinating character. He was a good team player and one of the more competent members of the group, and acted as a stabilizing influence when he could for some of the more rebellious younger members of the team.

However, he appeared in the altered House of M reality as one of Magneto's royal guards --- back in his human form. Now that this altered reality is over, it's not clear what happened to him or what his status is now. If he was depowered like many other mutants have been, he's in big trouble.
