Dedicated to Andromeda Ascendant's late sister!
The Pax Magellanic was one of the first Glorious Heritage class ships to come off the line. In basic terms it is the sister ship to the Andromeda Ascendant. The only difference in the two ships is that the Pax Magellanic has a glittering gold color.
A similarity between
the two ships, is that they both survived the fall of the
Commonwealth. The Pax Magellanic was found not long after
the Andromeda Ascendant was freed from 303 years of time dilation
in a black hole. The Andromeda crew boards the ship
thinking that it is abandoned. They soon come to find out
that the ship is not only manned, but by the original crew.
Led by Lieutenant Jill Pearce
the crew has supposedly survived due to side
effects by a Nietzschean weapon, used to blow up the surrounding
planet during the war.
To find out more
Information, Capt. Hunt sends Rommie into the VR matrix of the
Pax Magellanics AI core.
The Avatar appears, but does not recognize Rommie
as her sister. After many failed attempts to access, Pax
finally gives in, and finds out what happened the day of the
battle.
It was Pearce, that destroyed the Planet.
Rommie finds Dylan having
dinner with Pearce.
Pearce explains that Captain Warrick ordered her to fire on the
Nietzscheans, setting off a chain reaction and causing the planet
to explode.
Meanwhile Harper manages to get into the Slipstream drive, to find that the Slipstream is missing. The ships engineer Dutch, responds by attacking Harper. Beka appears to assist him, and the manage to escape to where Dylan is. Harper reaches a console, causing the crewmen and Pearce to slump motionless. The Crew...and Pearce, are Androids.
Rev Bem, reveals to the
crew that Pearce is not on the Pax's crew manifest. Dylan
realizes that Pax Magellanic translates from latin to "Jill
Pearce" Pearce, like Rommie, is the ship made flesh!
Rommie and Dylan enter the AI core and summon the Magellanic Avatar. Rommie tells Pearce that she's repressing a memory from the day the planet blew up and that it's affecting her thinking. Pearce states that Captain Warrick tried to kill her and that she acted in self-defense.
The three of them watch
a memory tape that shows Warrick commanding Pearce to self-destruct
because the Nietzscheans were planning to take control of the
ship. Pearce reveals that she and Warrick were in love,
and that Warrick said that he couldn't live without her.
Pearch believed that their love was bigger than her duty, and
refused Warricks order. She released the Slipstream Drive's
Exotic Matter Pulser and Jettisoned it toward the planet.
Dylan tells Pearce that he will have to erase the Pax Magellanic's AI because she disobeyed her oath to the Commonwealth to sacrifice herself if necessary.
Meanwhile, the Pax's crew
makes it's way onto the Eureka Maru, and a fight breaks out.
Tyr shows up and quickly dispatches the Android force. They
quickly make their way back to the Andromeda, and Rommie pleads
with Pearce to stop attacking. Dylan commands enough fire
to neutralize the Pax's batteries, but not to destroy the vessel.
The shots hit Pax's batteries, but the entire ship begins
exploding.
The Pax has dropped her defenses, allowing the Andromeda to kill
her. Pearces final words state that she has sacrificed
herself for love.
