Personally, I love the OLC. It features Rusty as the main character, and the plot is more...unpredictable, more juicy, with a couple of awesome twists, which is where C.B. and Belle come in. To be frank, the only complains I have about it is the whole "steam train" sequence in the beginning, because it gets old; "A Lotta Locomotion" is just too catchy for my health, but I like the way that it introduces the listener to the coaches; and the fact that Electra leaves after he looses, but then again, I like "No Come Back", and I like the way that "One Rock 'n' Roll Too Many" sounds with C.B. and Greaseball--besides, it's done to accomodate for C.B., so that makes it okay! Hehe.
Not to bash this recording, but I don't know why they had to change all that they did (in other words, I'm all too partial to C.B. and Belle). As for re-writing some of the songs, I think "He Whistled At Me", besides undergoing a slight name-change for the sake of verb tense, was murdered. Also, as much as I love "Next Time You Fall In Love", I prefer "Only He" and/or "Only You". This version also seems to focus more on Greaseball, Electra, and Pearl rather than our hero, Rusty (musically speaking, anyway). Casting-wise, Reva Rice's Pearl just doesn't thrill me, but that's not to say that she's not a gifted vocalist; I prefer John Partridge's Electra, however, to, well, all the rest! Hehe. Also, I rather like some of the new songs ("Make Up My Heart", "Crazy"). As much as it seems I've bashed this recoring, I really do like it, believe me. I'm blasting it all the time. Just ask my sister!
