Okay...here's the skinny. I've been watching Witchblade real close this season and I've come to a few conclusions. Take them how you will. Personally, I find them a little interesting myself. First of all... to truly understand the realm of what I'm getting ready to say, you have to be a Xena fan as well as a Witchblade fan. If you are either-or it may be hard to keep up. Although you may still think this is kinda cool.
On Witchblade we've got Sara Pezzini. A tough talking, motorcycle riding, dark headed, sexy voiced, ass kicking gal from New York City. A tough town. She's a woman who's been through a whole lot of rough times. Her father's dead. Her surrogate father figure (Kenneth Irons) was a psychotic power monger who liked to breed ultimate warriors in a bio lab. And she doesn't let many people get close to the real Sara.
On Xena we've got..well Xena. A tough talking, horse riding, dark headed, sexy voiced, ass kicking gal from Amphipolis. A tough town. She's a woman who has been through a whole lot of rough times. Her father's dead. Her surrogate father figure (Ares) was a psychotic power monger who liked to form ultimate warriors in his same twisted image. And she doesn't let many people get close to the real Xena.
Both names have four letters. :) Simple I know, but interesting.
Sara's deceased partner and spiritual guide is an Asian man named Danny.
Xena's deceased partner and spiritual guide is an Asian woman named Lao Ma.
Sara's faithful friend is a younger, big hearted guy with all the right intentions named Gabriel. And he's got those great sad, sweet eyes.
Xena's faithful friend is a younger, big hearted gal with all the right intentions (and then some) named Gabrielle. And we all know how nice her eyes are. :)
Sara's wannabe is a goofy, yet lovable "I want to be a tough cop" named Jake.
Xena's wannabe is a goofy, yet lovable "I want to be a tough warrior" named Joxer.
Sara's nemesis, Ian Nottingham, is both in lust and hate with her. Wanting to kill her one second and kiss her the next. In the end he lets love rule and gives himself up for Sara. He's then reanimated into a nutter killing machine. And he's drop dead gorgeous to boot. No pun intended.
Xena's nemesis, Callisto, is both in lust and hate with her. Wanting to kill her one second and kiss her the next. In the end she lets love rule and gives her soul to Xena's child. This child is born and turns into a nutter killing machine. And she's drop dead gorgeous to boot. (Callisto, not Eve). No pun intended.
Both have swords.
Both have extremely bad attitudes when you piss them off.
Both have obnoxious senses of humor.
And most importantly...both look absofrigginlutely incredible in leather.
Coincidences...I think not.
What do you think? And no you can't say you think I'm insane. I already know that. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Yancy Butler as Detective Sara Pezzini
The new face of action on television, Yancy Butler. With Xena: Warrior Princess retiring to a realm of beheadedness we need someone to pick up the gauntlet. And who else better than this awesome woman. With her snug low riding Levi's and black leather she rode her motorcycle into our hearts and many of our fantasies back in November of 2000. The TNT Original movie "Witchblade" was such a hit TPTB decided to do the intelligent thing and turn it into a series.
Based on the TOP COW comic of the same name this series incorporates reality with the supernatural. The medieval supernatural no less. And Yancy wields the blade with a presence like none other. It's sexy, sultry, and just downright damn good.
I first saw Yancy Butler in 1994 in the movie "Drop Zone" with Wesley Snipes, Gary Busey, and fellow ROC site actress Claire Stansfield. Playing a nutter skydiver who knocks off one of the bad guys (very inventively, I must say) with a copying machine. She also starred in the short lived "Brookyln South" as, surprise, a police officer. You've got to love a woman who can turn you on and scare the crap out of you at the same time.
Tuesday nights 9:00pm EST on TNT. Don't miss it.

Yancy's Biography
Full name: Yancy Victoria Butler
Date of birth: July 2, 1970
Place of birth: Manhattan, New York City
Current residences: New York City
Height: 5' 7"
Yancy Butler was raised in Greenwich Village, New York City during the seventies and early eighties as the only kid of, Joe and Leslie Butler. Show business has long been in the family, as Joe Butler is a member of the folk rock band, The Lovin Spoonful and her mother was a company manager for Broadway shows. Her parents separated when Yancy was 12 years old.
At the age of 13, Yancy began studying at the prestigious HB Studios in New York. She also studied dance and ballet at the Joffrey and Ailey schools. When the time came for her to choose a college, Yancy went to the well known Sarah Lawrence College, where she did her B.A. in Liberal Arts. She has a 3.8 grade point average and received a Griggs Scholarship. She graduated from SLC in 1991.
With a dozen stage credits on her resume, Yancy soon landed her first real acting job: a guest star role in the drama "Law & Order". This small part caught the attention of series creator, Dick Wolf, who offered her a lead in the sci-fi drama "Mann & Machine". Naturally, she took this early opportunity with both hands and gained a deserving fan following for her portrayal as the android 'Eve'.
In 1993, Yancy went on to star in her first full length film, the action thriller "The Hit List" with Jeff Fahey and James Coburn.
Soon after that the husky voiced actress lead another Dick Wolf creation called "South Beach", which had been created with her in mind. Set in the glamorous Miami Beach and surroundings, it co-starred John Glover and Eagle-Eye Cherry.
Aided by her good looks as well as considerable acting talent, Yancy made her theatrical motion picture debut opposite Jean Claude Van Damme in "Hard Target". A very violent film by Hong Kong action mystro, John Woo.
In 1994 she took on the role, originally written for a man, opposite Wesley Snipes in the skydiving adventure "Drop Zone." In between shooting these two big budget studio films, she starred in an independent film called "Annie's Garden".
Breaking away from the action genre for a bit, she joined the ensemble cast of the ballroom dance drama "Let It Be Me", with Patrick Stewart and Campbell Scott. The film was made in 1995, but its distribution company went bust, which caused a big delay in its release. They eventually found a channel for the film to hit the screens in 1997.
Yancy went on to play the lead in three direct-to-video movies. An action, adventure: "Fast Money"; a psychological thriller: "The Ex" and also "Ravager", a made for TV sci-fi thriller. During this time she also made a guest star appearance in the "NYPD Blue" episode 'I Love Lucy' - directed by Kathy Bates.
Her "NYPD Blue" appearance must have caught distinguished TV producer Steven Bochco's attention when, later in 1997, she got cast in his latest police drama, "Brooklyn South". The series won a People's Choice Award and an Emmy, but still failed to catch on with enough viewers in the US and it got canceled.
Next, Yancy took on a part in a Disney remake of "Spin & Marty" as well as leads in the cable movie 'Doomsday Man' and the thriller 'The Witness Files'.
Yancy has also done a fair amount of work using only her distinctive husky voice. She narrated a half dozen stories in audio books and did a voice-over for a cartoon called 'The Wild Thornberrys'. The most prominent among this work were two interesting stories read from J.A. Jance novels, 'Rattlesnake Crossing' and 'Outlaw Mountain', which she did in 1999.
More recently, Yancy portrayed Sara Pezzini in the pilot movie of the fantasy series, "Witchblade" - based on the comic book by the same name. She also starred opposite Joe Mantegna in the television movie, "Thin Air" - based on the popular series of Spencer mystery novels by Robert B. Parker.
This unique actress has an equally unique name: Yancy is a native American mispronunciation of the word 'Yankee'.
