My take on Alex
Okay, what can I say about Alex? Jeez, what a hard job. There isn't an easy way to sum up who she is or what she's about. She's beautiful. Witty. Clever. Engaging. Incredibly accepting. Kooky. There are just too many things to try and describe. I know for me, Aphrodite is my favorite supporting role on Xena. In the beginning it was a role that was just meant as a teaser. But Alex took it and made it her own. She made The Goddess of Love someone we looked forward to seeing. But most of all she gave her a soul. Which we know when it comes to the Gods of Olympia is not a simple task to do. Alex made us care about the character. I don't think any other actress could have done that. I had the incredibly fortunate opportunity of meeting Alex this year at a convention and she was just.... Damn. How do you say it? She was just... well...(thinking hard here) she was just Alex. That's the best way I can think of describing her. She's Alex. One of a kind. An absolute joy. Look out for this lady because she's got a long career ahead of her. And i for one, think it's going to be one hell of a ride.
A little about the woman
Alexandra Tydings portrays the quirky goddess of love "Aphrodite" on Hercules and Xena. Tydings is a Washington D.C. native who studied Irish folk dancing as a child. Continuing that interest at the Malone School of Irish Dance, she represented the U.S. at the World Championships of Irish Dance. She has also trained with the American Ballet Theatre and performed in Isadora with the Royal Ballet of London. Tydings has a strong background in the theater, with leading roles in numerous productions. Her feature film roles include The Sunchaser, Angst and Alice. When not busy appearing as Aphrodite on Hercules/Xena, she has had guest-starring roles on Party of Five, Vanishing Sun and The Red Shoe Diaries.
