The big chicken in "Chicken Village" near Dalat.
No it's not a fast food outlet!
It was built by the village chief after the tragic death of a young woman.
It's a story of star-crossed lovers and that sort of thing.
A young woman wanted to marry a man in another village,
but it was forbidden by the chief.
She was adamant to the point where the chief relented, but on one condition:
She had to go into the forest and bring back a spurred chicken.
(They're rare as hen's teeth).
Of course she never found a spurred chicken and died in the attempt.
The reason for the monument is a bit obscure.
It's either a dedication to young love, or the authority of the chief. Take your pick.
