NUMBER CRUNCHING:
The WB lauded the exemplary performance of "Greetings from Tucson" and "Reba" in its latest press release, but as shown below in the excerption, "What I Like About You", despite its depressed numbers, is doing its job on the schedule, getting the female teens and teens on board. It may not get the big ratings right now, but someone has to show them into the door where "Sabrina", "Reba" and the "Tucson" gang await...and who's better than Amanda Bynes for that job? But the show needs to broaden its appeal...it's slowly taking shape, with a more relationship-based comedy rather than the sisters at odds every week, and it's up to the WB to promote it now more sensibly and thoroughly -- not just a day or two before it airs, but throughout the week.

It's a good sign to say that "WILAY" is holding steady, because that cannot be said of one of its competitors, "Firefly", as it's perhaps one or two broadcasts away from falling past "WILAY" in the ratigns. On the day these national ratings were released, USA Today ran a piece about how the Fox network had rebounded with season premieres such as "The Simpsons", "Malcolm in the Middle" and "24". But "The Nation's Newspaper" couldn't resist comparing those numbers with its underperforming hours, such as "girls club", "Firefly" and "Fastlane". If ever an article proved that "Firefly" is on its last legs, that would be it. Also, this past weekend the Vancouver Sun suggested that "Firefly" might play better on Mondays, so don't discount a move after the sweeps.
